Game of Thrones Discussion: S8E5

Welcome to the Game of Thrones discussion open thread. In this thread there will be a safe space for people to discuss the most recent episode of Game of Thrones with other fans of the show without the need to clog up the traditional open thread or be buried in spoilers.

Warning!!!! THIS THREAD WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS

I will attempt to update and publish this thread on Monday mornings with my thoughts about the current week's episode, and update with any interesting links I may find throughout the day. don't expect too much monologing from me though, as most of my thoughts come best in the comments section. I just plan to have enough words to be able to publish w/ the correct word count.

THOUGHTS

Here are my thoughts for the current episode, they're probably a bit hazy and I may have mis-remembered some details. I tend to drink a lot while watching this show.

Wowzers ... Dany really took a turn ... I mean, we all figured it, it was quite obvious ... but still kind of striking to see.

Were there enough deaths for everyone in this episode? I have Varys, Euron, Quiban, Jaime, Cersai, the Hound, and the Mountain. I'm pretty sure my GoT Pool is effed.

Let's talk about Dany ... I think the Missendei death hit her, as we all knew it would. I thought all the Dothraki and Unsullied were dead in the fight w/ the dead? did a bunch stay back at dragonstone? her army looked a lot bigger in the first parts of that battle than it did last week. hmm ... bit of artistic license methinks?

Poor Tyrion. Always trying to do the right thing and always screwing up. He was the smartest character on the show. Not really certain why they have him as such a bumbling mess these last few seasons, but it's kind of irritating. the rift b/w Tyrion and Dany over Jaime is kind of an odd dynamic, and the Varys coup was just sloppy. Glad they at least ended it.

Yay, we all got what we wanted ... a giant fiery battle over kings landing. Glad to see all those scorpions got off about 2 shots b/c the dragon figured out to come straight down on them. I'm thinking the show writers must have read last week's open thread. Anyway ... the only one w/ a bit of plot armor this week was Drogon.

Clegaine bowl? Everyone impressed? or were you "underwhelmed"? I mean, i don't know how else you can live up to 7 seasons of hype, but I thought they did well w/ it.

Anyone have Cersai getting killed by Jaime? i mean "dumbest lannister" and all that, led her into a building that was collapsing. at least he died w/ the woman he loved. Twitter wasn't happy w/ Cersai's end but ... like the clegaine bowl .. no matter what you do it won't live up to the hype. you can't have Arya kill her, you can't have Dany kill her, Jaime doing turn on her doesn't fit w/ his character. Tyrion killing her would seem a bit hokey and shoehorned ...

What's everyone's prediction for next week? Sansa coming down w/ the rest of the North army? Sansa and Jon taking the throne? Where's Arya going? she gonna go home? are we done w/ Bran's storyline? maybe a surprise w/ the Night King?

Rules for the Game of Thrones thread:

1. You can discuss spoilers, but don't get mad at people for discussing spoilers if you aren't caught up
2. Keep the thread civil. we are all adults, people might have differing theories. keep the name calling in the other open thread
3. No non GOT discussion, including politics, religion, etc. (food and watch party plans can be included as long as it relates)
4. Despite being a risque show (boobs and swords) be smart, don't post anything NSFW.
5. If you are not a fan of the show ... get out of this thread. don't be a dick and post stupid stuff. I'll flag any disparaging comments about how this is a football blog and we shouldn't have other interests and blah blah blah.
