George Paton declines Jets interview

New, comments

Because of course he did

NFL: Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

In their search to fill their vacant General Manager job, the New York Jets requested permission earlier this week to interview Minnesota Vikings Assistant (to the) General Manager George Paton.

Paton’s response? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooope.

According to Connor Hughes of The Athletic, Paton has turned down the Jets’ request for an interview, and this is not the first time he’s done so. No, this is apparently the third time that the Jets have asked to interview George Paton and the third time that they’ve been shot down.

At this point, I’m expecting to see Jets’ ownership standing in front of the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center holding a boombox blaring Peter Gabriel tunes over their heads.

(Thanks to the three of you that are reading this that are old enough to understand that reference.)

Paton has had a lot of opportunities over the past few years, as he’s helped Rick Spielman in the construction of one of the more talented rosters in the NFL. At this point, it seems to be pretty clear that he’s waiting for the opportunity that checks all of his personal boxes before leaving Minnesota. Then again, maybe he likes where he’s at and isn’t interested in leaving Minnesota at all.

But, at least as far as the Jets are concerned, it seems to be pretty obvious that, seriously, he’s just not that into you.
