One of the walking wounded for the Minnesota Vikings is officially back at practice.
On Monday, the Vikings activated wide receiver Brandon Zylstra from the Physically Unable to Perform List. He was placed on the list prior to the start of camp, as he was apparently dealing with a hamstring injury. While nothing was ever really clarified, the fact that he went on the PUP list would seem to suggest that he was injured during minicamp or OTAs.
The pride of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, Zylstra went undrafted in 2016, and went on to the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. After leading the CFL in receiving yardage in 2017, Zylstra signed on with the Vikings during the offseason. He didn’t get onto the field much, recording just one reception for 23 yards, and returning a handful of punts as well.
With things on the Vikings’ depth chart at wide receiver behind Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs totally up for grabs here at the start of camp, Zylstra has a pretty significant opportunity in front of him. None of the team’s other young receivers have stepped up in the early going here, so maybe Zylstra can push his way into a bigger role than he had in his first season in Minnesota.
Eric will be along this afternoon with his daily update on everything he witnessed in Eagan today, and if any other news drops, we’ll have it here for you as soon as we can get it posted.
