With the rise of breweries across the nation in recent years, it only makes sense that the National Football League would end up being an inspiration or a theme for a lot of different brews. The folks from ESPN put together a list of the best NFL-themed adult beverages, and one inspired by the Minnesota Vikings made the short list.

The beer comes from the Remedy Brewing Company in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It’s a blueberry wheat concoction that is, appropriately, named “Skolberry.” Here’s ESPN’s description of it:

Why Skolberry? Remedy’s three owners are all massive Vikings fans. For the 2017 playoff run, just for fun, they put together a beer to celebrate. They settled on a blueberry wheat because of its purple tinge and sweetness. It ended up being a much bigger success than they thought it would be. (They went through 10 barrels, or 20 kegs, leading up to the playoffs.) They’ll bring it back for the third straight year before the start of the 2019 season.

Why so popular? First off, there are a lot of Vikings fans in Sioux Falls. But Remedy’s president and CEO, Matthew Hastad, also notes that Skolberry is an approachable, easy-drinking beer that has appeal beyond craft beer fans.

Key ingredients: Tons of blueberry puree and Hallertauer Mittelfrüh hops

It does not appear as though Remedy has it on tap or available at the present time, but as ESPN tells us they’ll have it ready to go again for the start of the 2019 season.

I don’t drink a whole lot of beer. . .or a whole lot of anything else, to be honest. However, this actually sounds pretty good, and if I can make my way back to God’s country during this upcoming football season, I’ll have to see if I can’t make a point of it to give the Skolberry a shot.

Have any of you folks out there gotten an opportunity to sample this drink? Are there any other NFL-themed beers that you know about that you’re a fan of?
