Good Morning!
I didn’t get to see the game last night, I did try to follow the game thread and twitter along with Gone Fishin’s occasional texts. From the sounds of it the first team offense didn’t look awful, Adam Thielen can still catch a football and it’s been 959 days since the Vikings lost to the Packers, bonus...the Vikings have never lost to the Packers at US Bank Field. I don’t remember seeing any news about injuries last night, that’s the most important news to me. I’m sure there will be lots of updates and news overnight, I’m going to shorten the Vikings related links below. Meanwhile, we’ll catch up on our NFC North opponents and then carry on with our news and links thread full of beer recommendations, nap strategies, crock pot and smoker recipes. Drop by for some fan wisdom, snark and stop in at Remedy Brewing Co and have a beer, it’s the weekend!
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Minnesota Vikings 34, New Orleans Saints 25: Minnesota victorious in preseason opener.
The Front Page writers have the Minnesota Vikings Training Camp stories in one convenient place.
Vikings news from other sources:
From Vikings.com Game Highlights: Vikings 34, Saints 25
Vikings full back Khari Blasingame catches a 2-yard touchdown from quarterback Kyle Sloter.
NFC North Roundup:
At Pride of Detroit Ask POD: Preseason opener fallout.
Notes: Hang in there, it’s just preseason.
3 winners, 5 losers from Detroit Lions’ preseason loss to New England Patriots.
Detroit Lions injury updates: What we know about the Lions’ Week 1 preseason injuries.
At Windy City Gridiron The Elliot Fry and Eddie Pineiro show (sidenote, I wanted the Vikings to sign Pineiro as an UDFA, they draft Carlson instead)
Montgomery impresses and Fry gets a foot ahead in Bears preseason opener vs Panthers.
Best Bets: Bears, NFL odds for yardage leaders.
At Acme Packing Company Packers’ JK Scott shows signs of second-year improvement in preseason opener.
Cheese Curds, 8/9: Assessing the Packers’ backup QBs after the first preseason game.
Packers stock watch: Ty Summers, defensive backs have big evening against Texans.
League news:
It’s that time for one of my favorite series every year Deadspin’s “Why Your Team Sucks” by Drew Magary. The most recent team to get roasted is the Washington Redskins. I’ll continue to update the teams as they are posted.
Consistent with the weekend news and links I’ll post the rest of the league news in the comments.
We come to today’s media selection: Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waiter, try the preseason hype and Welcome Aboard.
