In a bit of a mild surprise, the Minnesota Vikings did not claim anybody off of waivers on the day after 53-man rosters were established.
This means that the team likes the way their roster is currently constructed, even with a couple of odd configurations, such as only carrying four wide receivers. I thought they’d claim a couple of players and shift some folks around, but that didn’t happen.
A couple of former Vikings did get claimed on waivers, however. Kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik was claimed by the New York Jets, where I have no doubt that he’ll pull a Daniel Carlson and be outstanding, because Vikings. In addition, wide receiver Brandon Zylstra was claimed by the Carolina Panthers.
Neither wide receiver Laquon Treadwell nor quarterback Kyle Sloter were claimed on waivers, meaning that both now become unrestricted free agents.
Now the Vikings can begin forming their practice squad, and we’ll have all of the news about that here for you as we get it.
