Big Trade

Im over week 2, it sucked, but at the same time Minnesota easily should have won it and the Pack looked not great after QTR 1. Maybe its whats to come maybe a fluke but its a day later and im not going to sulk over it. Its part on Kirk part on the Refs.

But thats not what im to ramble about on this post - instead, i am of the opinion that we need to make a trade. This team has a lot of talent and is set up well, at least in terms of players, for the present and future.

So just for fun because i think we could use a "jolt" i am going to suggest a few trades. Let me know if any of them sound good or if they are hot garbage or what you would tweak - or if i missed a guy you'd like. Some will be rumor based and some will just be my own self started trades without any hints they are being shopped. Also i have no idea if these are financially feasible or even possible, as minor research into cap situations is being considered.

1. Trent Williams - LT - Redskins . We know the story with him. They botched his medicals and he refuses to play for them. I truley don't think New England offered a 1st and its been reported they both didnt and didnt so take that as you will. With offensive line still being the clear weak spot on this team - now should be the time to scoop him up for our future at LT. He is 31, so not young, but has the talent and skill level to play at a high level well into his 30s a la Andrew Whitworth and Jason peters. So here is my proposed trade:

Redskins : Riley Reiff , 2020 2nd round pick

Vikings : Trent Williams , 2020 6th round pick

Rationale: The Redskins get an immediate replacement and can opt to move on after the season, and they snag a 2nd rounder to build with this upcoming draft. Vikings trade some draft capitol to land a top 3 LT in the league, and i threw in a 6th because, well, its Slick Rick and he loves his late day 3 picks.

2. Jalen Ramsey - CB - Jaguars . Fresh face on the trade market. An Elite cornerback who just today asked for a trade. Hard to see Jacksonville not hashing things out, but still - he'd be a tremendous upgrade. He has some downsides, he is due to be paid soon, and he is going to be big time expensive. But his upside, age and elite status should be why they chase him. Not much more to say.

Jaguars : Xavier Rhodes , 2020 1st round pick , 2021 4th round pick

Vikings : Jalen Ramsey

Rationale: Jaguars get the 1st they want. Swapping out Rhodes at least keeps them with a good corner - if not great anymore sadly. Minnesota coughs up a 1st for a guy who they need to pay to keep around, however they get out from under Rhodes remaining contract. Assuming they get a deal done to keep him long term I'd be very happy with something like this. A young core of Hughes - Ramsey - Alexander - Waynes (if kept) could be the most exciting in the league for awhile. Add in Rhodes and Harris and oof - nightmare fuel for QBs

3. Minkah Fitzpatrick - CB/S - Dolphins . This one, to me, is the most realistic. The Dolphins are actually engaged with other teams. He isn't on the same level of Ramsey, but he is also on a rookie deal with multiple years left, and while not elite, he isn't far from it. Miami likely wouldn't be wanting to swap talent for talent + Pick as they are in tank mode (why they want to let Minkah seek a trade is beyond me). They also have 2 firsts which makes me think they won't be too greedy with what they are seeking as the recent rumors have me thinking he could be had for less. Not for nothing, but not a 1st. With that in mind...

Dolphins : 2020 2nd round pick , 2020 3rd round pick , 2021 3rd round pick

Vikings : Minkah Fitzpatrick

Rationale: Miami gets a 2nd and 3rd this year and a 3rd next, a good haul of picks for a guy they have no interest in keeping for some reason. Minnesota gets a young stud to build around with Hughes - much like I describe above. Minnesota is in line to get some nice comp picks (one of which should be a 3rd) which lessens the blow next offseason. That might not be enough. Perhaps they demand a 1 but its my post so we get him for 2, 3 ,3.

UPDATE : Steelers landed Minkah for a first. Mid writing this he was traded LOL. Figured i'd keep it as he was my favorite target.

4. Larry Fitzgerald - WR - Cardinals . Yes i know how unlikely this is. And No i am not ready for the dream to die. However, If the Cards want to get Larry a ring, and if he isn't too stubborn, there are worse options than a deal with Minnesota. No we aren't a superbowl favorite or frankly a playoff lock, but we have the talent to be amongst the best. IF the Cardinals and Larry himself are open to it, i hope Minnesota pounces. He locks up WR3 for the remainder of the season, and probably is the cheapest acquisition on this list. Its unlikely as he is essentially the Dirk of the NFL, but crazier things have happened.

Cardinals : 2020 6th round pick

Vikings : Larry Fitzgerald , 2021 7th round pick

Rationale: Sort of went into this already but. WR3 is locked for Minny for 1 year, maaaaybe 2. Cardinals get some late round draft capitol as gets to develop their young core of WR's a bit more over the course of the season. This one probably doesn't happen until Zona is potentially out of the playoff picture.

5. Ramon Foster - LG - Steelers . Yes the Steelers just made a move for Fitzpatrick, which i really like for them. But without Big Ben there is a substantial hole at QB now. And while its only week 2, perhaps they outta starting thinking about re-tooling already. Not blowing things up, not giving up entirely, as they are still a talented team. But if you can cash in on a few spots here and there and build yourself up a bit it might make sense too without your QB.

Steelers : Dakota Dozier , 2020 6th round pick

Vikings : Ramon Foster

Rationale : Vikings get a steady LG for 2 years, who while not an amazing fit, would still be an upgrade over Dozier/Elflein. Dozier is a throw in essentially to match positions, and its far more likely they swap elsewhere or save money in some capacity to fit in Foster. Foster is ~1 mil this year and ~4 next. If he plays average ball like much of his career, he will be worth the deal as a league average guard. Steelers get a pick for a guy likely on his way out soon, and Minnesota plugs a hole until Samia is ready to contribute.

So those are my 5, well 4 i suppose. I was going to propose one about my O line crush of Brandon Scherff, but with a young QB my guess is he re-writes the OG money market here soon. Plus his acquisition cost would be killer.

None of these are bound to happen , but hey i was bored and i think a trade would do this team some good. Love em?Hate em? Have some of your own?
