Report: Vikings have made ‘substantive inquiry’ on Jalen Ramsey

Well then, let’s talk about this, shall we?

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

As most of you know, Jacksonville Jaguars Uber CB Jalen Ramsey had a sideline confrontation with head coach Doug Marrone last Sunday, and then after the game asked to be traded.

As is our wont in Vikings Land, a lot of folks speculated that the team should make a trade for Ramsey, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted earlier this week that the Jags wanted at least one first round pick as part of a deal. I didn’t put a whole lot of stock into a Ramsey to the Vikings trade, even though local reporters were clamoring for it, until I saw this tweet:

I still don’t think it’s going to happen, for a number of reasons. Primarily, right now, the salary cap:

I will say, though, that if the Vikings have made a substantive inquiry, they’ve also done their homework on the cap, or there’s a player involved that has a salary that will go to Jacksonville and allow the Vikings to fit Ramsey in. Trae Waynes is a guy that comes to mind right off the top of my head, but that’s just pure speculation on my part.

Will it happen? It seems that the rumor mill has the Chiefs as the favorite to land him now, but nothing official has come down. So until a trade happens, the Vikings are still, apparently, in the mix.

The Jaguars are scheduled to play tonight, so it will be interesting to see if he plays tonight. If he does, and then is traded tomorrow, he would not be eligible to play this weekend:

So, for those of you on the ‘let’s trade for Jalen Ramsey’ train, stay tuned. Heck, even if you’re not, stay tuned anyway!
