The first official injury report of the season is out for the Minnesota Vikings, and seven players were listed in total. Let’s hit the bad news first, shall we?
Of the seven players listed on the injury report, only one of them completely sat out practice. That’s not bad. . .except that the one player is wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who is apparently nursing a hamstring issue. There were no indicators that Diggs was injured in any of the preseason games that he played, so hopefully this is a minor thing and he’ll be ready to face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
In much better news, cornerback Mike Hughes was listed as “limited” in Wednesday’s practice. Hughes, who spent the entire preseason on the Physically Unable to Perform List and was removed just before the final cuts, is likely not going to be ready for Sunday’s game, but it’s definitely encouraging to see him out there at all.
The other five Vikings listed on the injury report participated in full. They were
- CB Mackensie Alexander (hamstring)
- LB Kentrell Brothers (wrist)
- DE Everson Griffen (elbow)
- DT Linval Joseph (shoulder)
- OT Brian O’Neill (elbow)
Neither Joseph nor O’Neill saw any action this preseason with their injury issues, but Mike Zimmer has said all along that O’Neill would be ready for Week 1, and I don’t think anyone doubted whether or not Joseph would be ready to go.
That’s the first injury report of the week, folks. Obviously, we’ll be keeping an eye on the Diggs situation, as well as everything else concerning the Vikings leading up to the season opener.
