Good morning Horners! The Vikings kicking situation has caused heartburn for many fans. GMG’s Dave and Drew talk about it. Going into the game against the Atlanta Falcons the kicker competition is settled for at least now.
Kare Vedvik is gone and that experiment cost a future 5th round pick. Of course he was picked up by the New York Jets and promptly makes a 69 yarder. Oy! Dan Bailey has secured his second season with the Vikings after a season only hitting 75% of his field goal attempts. Daniel Carlson was fired after the second game at Green Bay in 2018 and moved to the Oakland Raiders where he has hit virtually all of his kicks.
There is something under the Mike Zimmer time as head coach that has affected the kickers. Theories fly about how they are dealt with and their strength of their psyches. Kickers in the Zimmer era include: Dan Bailey, Daniel Carlson, Kai Forbath, and Blair Walsh. Punters include: Matt Wile, Ryan Quigley, and Jeff Locke. Also the Vedvik experiment at both positions. In 5 full seasons, that is a lot players at a positions that usually change that often. What are your theories on it?
