Fresh off of their thrilling overtime victory over the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round, the Minnesota Vikings now have an even bigger task in front of them, as they will have to travel to Levi’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on the top seed in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers.
The Niners clinched the top seed in the conference in the NFL’s final regular season game, holding off the Seattle Seahawks to win the NFC West and home field advantage. That got them a week off that they’ve no doubt used to get as healthy as possible with the Vikings coming to town.
These two teams met in the regular season opener in 2018, and the Vikings walked away with a 24-16 victory at U.S. Bank Stadium. However, this is a vastly different Niners team than we saw on that day.
This will be the sixth time that the Vikings and 49ers have met in the NFL Playoffs. The Vikings have only won one of the previous five matchups, a 36-24 victory at Candlestick Park in January of 1988. That game also followed a Vikings upset of the Saints in New Orleans. Will history repeat itself?
This game will kick off at 3:35 PM Central time on Saturday afternoon, and it will be broadcast on NBC.
