Vikings bring back CB Marcus Sayles, reshuffle practice squad

You really can never have enough corners, I guess

For the second day in a row, the Minnesota Vikings have added to their cornerback room, shuffling their practice squad in the process.

The team has announced that they have brought back cornerback Marcus Sayles, who spent part of Training Camp with the Vikings this year. In order to make room on the practice squad, the Vikings have waived linebacker Cale Garrett.

Sayles was an undrafted free agent in 2017 out of West Georgia, and as a rookie spent time on the practice squads of both the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams during his first year in the NFL. Following that season, Sayles signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, spending two years in Bud Grant’s old stomping grounds and being named a CFL West All-Star in 2019. He was a part of the Bombers’ Grey Cup-winning team that season.

The Vikings signed Sayles to a futures contract back in January, but waived him during Training Camp.

With the signing of Sayles and the waiving of Garrett, the Vikings’ practice squad now looks like this (with offensive lineman Brett Jones expected to be added tomorrow):

  • DT Abdullah Anderson
  • FB Jake Bargas
  • OT Blake Brandel
  • QB Jake Browning
  • OL Aviante Collins
  • TE Brandon Dillon
  • OL Kyle Hinton
  • WR Alexander Hollins
  • S Luther Kirk
  • LB Blake Lynch
  • DT Hercules Mata’afa
  • CB Marcus Sayles
  • QB Nate Stanley
  • DE Eddie Yarbrough

Even with Jones signing tomorrow, the Vikings have an empty spot on their 16-man practice squad. If they should add someone to the team, we’ll pass that news along to you.
