In the latest little bit of bad news for a Minnesota Vikings season that has gotten off to a pretty rough start, it doesn’t appear that the team will be getting a boost from their star defensive end any time soon.
Numerous sources reported yesterday that Danielle Hunter, who was placed on injured reserve before the season got underway, was in New York yesterday to get a second opinion on his neck injury. The injury has been classed as a “cervical spine disc herniation,” which on the surface appears to be a hell of a way to misspell “tweak.”
(Seriously, just between you, me, and your monitor, I’m not sure if Mike Zimmer is being totally honest with us about Vikings injuries. Maybe I’m paranoid but it seems like that’s the case.)
Hunter is officially eligible to come off of injured reserve this week, as the new rules for this season allow players to come back after missing only three games, but that obviously isn’t going to happen. There was a report that a doctor had recommended that Hunter not attempt to return this season, but a source close to the situation quickly shut that down.
Interesting.

In all seriousness, folks, I’m honestly beginning to think that we don’t see Danielle Hunter on the field this season. That’s not the most important thing here, obviously, as the bigger issue is that whatever’s wrong with Hunter gets fixed somehow and he’s able to make a full recovery, but with the Vikings’ season trending in the wrong direction and the new light that has been shed on the nature of his condition, at the very least any optimism to that end needs to be tempered a bit.
Like many of the other stories surrounding this team at the present time, whenever we know more about the situation we will pass the news along to you here.
