It’s........I can’t believe it.....it’s a.....it’s a post-win Monday!

NFL: Minnesota Vikings at Houston Texans Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Merry Monday, everyone!

And a wonderful Monday morning it is! The usual jubilation that accompanies a Monday morning is in overdrive today, as the Vikings put their first notch in the 2020 W column yesterday (and for me, the Braves are also as hot as a two-dollar pistol and are rolling through the playoffs). It wasn’t perfect, but it’s a road win against a team that was in the playoffs and won their division last year (I am well aware that they had an atrocious off-season, but they WERE in the playoffs last year, so I’m not wrong). The team didn’t want to make it easy on us fans, so they didn’t put the game away when they could. Instead, it came down to a goalline stand by the defense to prevent a last minute comeback attempt, but after what we Vikings fans have been through over the years, that hardly even caused an increase in the heart rate.

The offense looked much better yesterday, starting with quarterback Kirk Cousins. He still has some tendencies that drive you batty, but he did a much better job yesterday. One of the things I noticed yesterday was an improvement in his timing. He seemed more decisive, and was getting rid of the ball BEFORE being tackled, and it resulted in a higher completion percentage, no interceptions, and most of all, a more balanced offensive attack. Cook had another solid day, as did Jefferson and Thielen. Jefferson is the real deal, that kid is going to be fun to watch in the weeks, months, and years to come.

The defense also looked better. I think some of that can be attributed to the offense doing a better job of sustaining drives, which keeps the defense more rested so they can do the things they want to do. The defense did a good job of keeping the Johnson & Johnson rushing attack at bay, and they did a VERY good job of keeping Deshon Watson between the hashes where he couldn’t do damage with his legs.

All in all, it was a good game, and the team has things they can build on from yesterday. It was also a fun game to watch, unlike the first two games and the 2nd half of last week. For today, let’s enjoy the win. Let’s hope they can build on it and stack a few of these together. It won’t be easy, as their next game is a Prime Time Sunday Night matchup against the Seahawks.......in Seattle.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

There was a lot of pre-game turmoil surrounding the Vikings due to false-positive Covid tests, per Chris.

Chris has your post-game wrap-up.

Danielle Hunter got a second opinion on his neck injury, per Chris. Ugh.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, try not to wake any of the patrons at the bar, they got a little carried away celebrating after the win, and they kinda just fell asleep there in the wee hours of the morning, haven’t moved since.
