Another post-win Monday?!?!

NFL: Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

Happy post-win Monday, everyone!

Whoa! Two in a row? Dalvin Cook and the defense showed up big for a second straight week, and Kirk Cousins added a second consecutive efficient and mistake-free performance. As the Vikings’ all-time leading rusher watched from the opposing sideline, Dalvin Cook put up his biggest rushing performance of the season, and he helped carry the Vikings to a 34-20 win over the Lions (link courtesy of CBS Sports). I’ll admit, I didn’t get to see the game live, as I was traveling back from Montana, but I saw the highlights and I’m watching a replay of the game as I type this. This is the first Vikings game I haven’t watched live in many years, so it’s kinda weird for me to watch it on a replay, although I find it far less stressful to watch when I already know the outcome, and I truly enjoy the ability to fast forward through commercials. I’ll have more commentary tomorrow after I’ve had a chance to see the game in its entirety.

In the end, the good guys put another notch in the W column, the North is still not impossible (although highly improbable), and with the NFL potentially altering the playoff structure, the Vikings could possibly still be in the playoff hunt. Stranger things have happened, such as the Eagles possibly being able to take the NFC East with 5 wins.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

vhcadet posted the Stock Market Report 2.0: Vikings-Lions.

Chris has your post-game wrap-up.

From Chris, the Titans tried to put together a trade for Reilly Reiff before the trade deadline, but no deal could be reached. I’m glad that Rick didn’t trade guys just for the sake of trading them. If the deal isn’t good enough, turn it down. Also, I don’t know how wise it is to trade your starting left tackle when you have a guy at the quarterback position with the mobility of a lamp post and who also has a billion dollars of guaranteed money on his contract (slight exaggeration).

Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:

Over at Vikings.com, see all the highlights from yesterday’s win, see Zimmer address the media after the game, and there is a ton more to sift through in the media vault.

We come to today’s media selection:

It gives me great pleasure to carry on my favorite DN open thread tradition. STRIKE UP THE BAND!!!!!!!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip your waitress (from a minimum of six feet away, of course), and try the head cheese.
