Vikings waive Tajae Sharpe, make two other moves

We missed it yesterday

We’re sorry that we missed this news yesterday. Then again, I’m guessing a lot of other people did, too.

On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings brought an end to what might have been the least productive free agent signing in team history when they released wide receiver Tajae Sharpe.

Sharpe signed a one-year deal with the Vikings back in March, and there was speculation that he could at least fight for time as the team’s #3 receiver. And, hoo boy, did that ever not happen. This season, Sharpe caught exactly the same number of passes for the Vikings as I did. . .that would be zero. . .but only one of us got about a million dollars from the Vikings for their efforts.

(It was not me.)

The release of Sharpe opens up a spot on the roster for, literally, anyone with a pulse.

The Vikings also officially made tight end Hale Hentges a part of the active roster on Monday. I was under the impression that he would be able to play in the loss to Tampa, but he was not.

The third move that the Vikings made on Monday was signing running back Khalfani Muhammad to the practice squad. Muhammad was a seventh-round pick of the Tennessee Titans back in 2017, and has made several stops around the league over his career, including New England, Denver, and Arizona. He has yet to appear in a regular season NFL game.

With the signing of Muhammad, the practice squad for the Vikings now looks like this:

  • DT Abdullah Anderson
  • OL Zack Bailey
  • FB Jake Bargas
  • OT Blake Brandel
  • QB Jake Browning
  • OL Aviante Collins
  • CB Tae Hayes
  • OL Kyle Hinton
  • WR Alexander Hollins
  • DB Luther Kirk
  • LB Blake Lynch
  • RB Khalfani Muhammad
  • LB Hardy Nickerson
  • QB Nate Stanley
  • CB Cordrea Tankersley
  • K Tristan Vizcaino
  • DE Eddie Yarbrough

The official roster page on the Vikings’ website lists 17 players on the practice squad. I believe that means they’re going to have to make a move somewhere with one of those players. When they do, we’ll let you know about it.
