The weekend is so close, you can almost taste it

Merry Thirsty Thorsday, y’all!

I’ll take a coffee.........well, I’ll take ANOTHER coffee. Hey, we’re rounding the final corner, and are almost to the weekend. Anyone have any plans for the weekend? I mean, other than watching our favorite team take the next step toward the playoffs? Kidding aside, this will be a tough game. The Bears have a very tough defense, and a not-very-tough offense. So, scoring will likely not come easy, I don’t expect to see a lot of points put up by either side. The Vikings are going to have to minimize mistakes, and they’re going to have to capitalize on any mistakes they can force the Bears to make, and they’re going to have to take advantage of every scoring opportunity (You hear me out there, Bailey?). I think the Vikings have the advantage, but it isn’t a huge advantage. I do like that the Vikings defense seems to be getting stronger as their young starters are beginning to settle in, and I like that Cousins seems to have shaken off his early-season shakiness and has been playing well, and has been doing so consistently. A win would be huge for either team, as the winner will be back in the playoff picture or right on the heels of Arizona in the race for the playoffs, depending whether the Eagles can take out the Cardinals or not. SKOL!

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Luft Krigare brings you CTPN’s In The Huddle: talking Vikings, Buccaneers and Bears.

If you want to support a great cause, our own Admiral Big Gun is taking the Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics.

Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:

Former Ravens running back Lorenzo Taliaferro died yesterday at the age of 28, per the Baltimore Sun. No cause of death has been released.

To reinforce my unpopular opinion that the Vikings should NOT cut Dan Bailey, here’s a piece by NFL.com on Mason Crosby, and how he’s been a solid and consistent kicker after going through a rough stretch several years ago.

We come to today’s media selection:

Hey, here’s a great band from back in my high school days. This is the Kentucky Headhunters. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip your waitress (from a minimum of six feet away, of course), and try the horse poop.
