New, comments

Just for the halibut, we’re having a ‘Kirk free zone’ comments section in the open thread today.

NFL: NFC Wild Card-Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints Derick Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Merry Tuesday, everyone!

For no other reason than ‘just because’, we’re going to have a Cousins-less comment section today. It’s just like any other day on the open thread, where anything goes, as long as it’s within the confines of the rules, with the exception of the current starting Vikings quarterback. No one is being repressed, no rights are being violated, we voted yesterday, and my unofficial count says that the decision was unanimous, and you can’t argue with unanimous, unless it’s a decision in a boxing match.

If anyone is having trouble coming up with a topic, I have a few suggestions.

  1. Why soccer sucks
  2. How far the Packers will regress next year
  3. Why Ponder is to blame
  4. Hrbeck pulled Gant
  5. Any recipes involving a crock pot, smoker, or grill
  6. Why North Dakota is better
  7. Milwaukee or DeWalt?
  8. Is soccer the root of all evil, or is it only the root of most evil?
  9. Why stu always pays

Around the DN since our last open thread:

The official first round order in the upcoming draft has been determined, Chris has all the details.

Kirk Cousins’ wife Julie underwent emergency surgery while they were in Orlando for the Pro Bowl, she appears to be recovering, per Chris. Prayers to the Cousins family.

Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:

The Falcons are not going to re-sign Vic Beasly, and the linebacker will become a free agent, per FoxSports. Also, Vernon Davis has decided to retire after 14 NFL seasons.

NFL.com’s Michael Silver details Kyle Shanahan, and the similarities between Sunday’s Super Bowl collapse and Atlanta’s collapse in Super Bowl LI. Shanahan was Atlanta’s offensive coordinator.

A deer tackled a man in a North Carolina McDonalds parking lot, per UPI. Pretty decent form by the deer, I like how he keeps his head up and follows through on the tackle. Rick should give him a call, maybe he could play corner back. He runs like a deer.

We come to today’s media selection:

A billion thanks to southparkskolman for suggesting this kid’s music to me, he is absolutely amazing. This is Billy Strings, enjoy!

We all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to tip your waitress, and try the tiger meat.
