Stephen Weatherly agrees to terms with Carolina Panthers

And the Vikings have their first loss of free agency

With all the craziness that the Minnesota Vikings had in the opening portion of the “legal tampering” period, it sounds as though they’re on the verge of having their first loss of free agency.

According to his agent, Blake Baratz, defensive end Stephen Weatherly has agreed to terms with the Carolina Panthers and will sign when free agency officially begins on Wednesday.

Weatherly was a seventh-round pick of the Vikings in the 2016 Draft after playing his college ball at Vanderbilt. He appeared in just two games as a rookie but appeared in 47 of his final 48 games as a member of the Vikings with six starts. As a member of the Vikings, he had six sacks and 67 combined tackles.

Weatherly played a solid depth role for the Vikings over the past couple of seasons, getting most of his starts in 2018 when Everson Griffen was dealing with personal issues. It appears he’s going to get a chance to play an even bigger role with Carolina.

Congratulations to Stephen Weatherly on his new contract, as he’s someone that’s going to be missed in Minnesota.
