Good morning Horners! The Minnesota Vikings are are making moves in free agency that have some of wondering, “What is this team doing?” Understanding that the team was over the cap entering this phase of the offseason and some moves were required like the cutting of Xavier Rhodes and Linval Joseph to free up some cash. We understand that. Then quarterback Kirk Cousins gets an extension, after stories of him turning down offers, to free up cash in 2020. We understand that though some may not agree. The team also franchised tagged Anthony Harris. It pointed to a win now philosophy. Then the rest of the moves have us wondering “what is the plan?”

Some of the moves include trading your best wide receiver in Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills. Yes, he was upset, and especially over seeing his team extending Kirk Cousins. It was signal to him that the team didn’t want to feature more of the pass after he busted his butt to get open time after time just to be not thrown to. Flip said it well on his show last week on Fifteen Minutes with Flipmazzi. The wide receiver corps is down to Adam Thielen and Bisi Johnson, and as of yesterday Tajae Sharpe. Bisi and Sharpe are good a WR3 and WR4, but not the WR1A that was traded for a few picks in the draft. Then we hear reported that the team is trying to trade Anthony Harris for even more picks. Those picks have potential to be good ones, but that depends on Rick Spielman actually making them so. His record over time has been hit or miss so to expect more than that is unrealistic. The move though, getting extra picks then not going for significant free agents other than nose tackle Michael Pierce, points to building for the future.

The team seems to have gone from win now mode to build towards the future within 48 hours, but almost looks like it trying to do both and messing it up. Many of you will agree with Ted when he gets frustrated and says, “I don’t get it!” Well, Ted, Drew and Dave in their normal Good Morning Gjallarhorn way, try to talk it all out with humor and maybe a touch of old wisdom, maybe.
