Merry Tuesday, y’all!
Now.......we wait for......... baseball......or training camp....or.......something....anything! I’m SO thankful for fishing, I honestly don’t know how you non-fisherpersons are able to maintain your sanity. My hat’s off to ya’, because if it weren’t for fishing and yard work, the nice & friendly people in the white uniforms would have come for me a long time ago.
Speaking of yard work, how many of you have most of your spring yard work and planting finished? We’ve gotten ours started, which is ahead of schedule for us compared to other years. We normally wait until Memorial Day, because you never know with the weather in good ol’ North Dakota, it could still freeze, but that seems unlikely this year, so we got a head start.
I already did my power raking this year. I’m always amazed how much dead grass we get out of the yard, I think I hauled 13 bags to the grass dump, (all in one load, of course, I looked like Jed Clampett driving over there). We had our pre-emergent put down last week, so I should be able to put down new grass seed sometime in the next couple weeks. Just last night, I finished getting all our mulch raked and added new mulch where needed. We changed all of our mulch last year to a cocoa bean shell mulch, and we really love it. It’s supposed to last much longer than wood mulch, is better for the ground and plants, and it smells REALLY good. Mrs. Fishin’ bought a bunch of flowers yesterday (kiddo helped her pick them out, so there is lots of purple and gold. That’s my boy!), so I would imagine that any off-time that isn’t filled with fishing will be spent planting flowers, which is okay by me, I love yard work. I don’t love it as much as I love fishing, but I do enjoy it, so I don’t complain when I get to do it.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Chris shared the news that coaching legend Don Shula passed away.
The NFL announced that no NFL games will be played overseas in 2020. If Hawaii ever gets an NFL team, they’ll have to stop referring to games played in other countries as “overseas games”, because technically, those would include games in Hawaii. Not sure why I thought of that, but I did.
Wludford continues breaking down the Vikings 2020 draft class, and today he looks at Ezra Cleveland.
Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:
Marshawn Lynch’s agent and the Seahawks are to discuss a potential return to the NFL for the running back, per NBC Sports.
49ers UDFA QB Broc Rutter received an unexpected signing bonus from the team, for the whopping sum of $249.00, per NFL.com. I hate it when NFL teams spend money so frivolously while there are people struggling.
NFL.com lists their 2020 All-Paid team, with the league’s highest paid players for each position. I don’t see any Vikings on the list.
ESPN has an interesting story about Alex Smith’s injury, the surgery, and the fight to save his life. There are a bunch of words in there that MTViking and just_rob will have to translate for us; lots of “itis”es and “izing”s and other ancient and foreign terms that are only used in stories about medicine, and at the beginning of Road Runner cartoons.
From FoxSports, the Colts decide not to exercise 5th year option on Hooker. Probably a good idea, that’s illegal in almost every state.
We come to today’s media selection:
Yesterday, I shared a good song that kiddo and I found whilst playing cards the other day. Here’s another song we found that stood out for other reasons. Ummm...enjoy?!
We all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Wipe the fish guts off of your hands before you touch your face, and try the finger food.
