Weekend Open Thread

Good Morning!

I’m going to schedule this to post at the usual time of 4am, but since I’ll be up early getting to get the smoker set up for a pork butt for tonight’s dinner I might post it early, unless I sleep through my alarm and we’re going to eat dinner at 10pm or so. Meanwhile we’ll carry on with our news and links full of crockpot recipes, nap strategies and beer recommendations; drop by for some fan wisdom, snark and it’s the weekend, get the smoker started, get all your outdoor chores done early, and have a beer or two, it’s going to be a great weekend!

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Unbelievable! - Too High or Too Low. BJ Reidell and Drew Mahowald decide whether the Vikings’ top players were graded fairly by Madden 2021’s initial ratings.

Chris ponders: Kentrell Brothers suspended nine games by NFL.

Vikings news from other sources:

From Vikings.com: Gabe Henderson is joined by former Vikings linebacker and current radio analyst Ben Leber to look at the team’s situation at defensive line, where long-time anchors like Everson Griffen and Linval Joseph have moved on, opening the door for young players and newcomers like DT Michael Pierce to make their mark, with of course DE Danielle Hunter looking to continue his trajectory as one of the NFL’s top pass-rushers.

Lunchbreak: NFC North Ranks 3rd-Strongest in NFL.

8 Highlights of ‘Unite the North’ Minnesota Chamber Event.

League News:

Consistent with the weekend thread, I’ll post league news in the comments section.

We come to today’s media selection: The Allman Brothers Band - Ramblin’ Man

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to wash your hands, try the buffet and Welcome Aboard!

Topic of the Day: What’s your favorite spice or rub for meat on the smoker?
