Happy Tuesday, everyone!
Okay, so the regular season that wasn’t going to be is approaching quickly, and if all goes according to plan, will kick off 3 weeks from Thursday, on September 10th, when the Texans travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs. The good guys will open their season a couple days later, as the hated Packers come to Minneapolis for a noon game on Sunday, September 13th. I hope it happens, but I’m not going to take the chicken off the smoker until the eggs are ready. I think that’s how the saying goes, isn’t it? Something like that. Anyhoo, here’s a link to the complete 2020 NFL week one schedule, courtesy of NFL.com.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
The normally durable Trae Waynes is to miss much of the 2020 season with a pec injury, from Chris.
The Vikings waived Quentin Poling, per Eric.
Chris looks at who may emerge as the Vikings WR4. This will be an interesting camp battle to watch play out. It’s a wide open battle for the spot, and it will be especially diifficult for the coaches with no preseason games to aid them in evaluating the players.
Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:
Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler will make their MNF debut on September 14th, as they are set to announce the MNF opener between the Steelers and Giants. Steve Levy, Louis Riddick, and Brian Griese will occupy the booth for the rest of the season, all courtesy of USA Today.
With one tweet, Deandre Hopkins quickly ended speculation that he was holding out of Cardinals training camp, from CBS Sports.
Melvin Ingram is, in fact, sitting out of training camp because of contract issues, per NFL.com. I don’t think that’s a good idea, that organization has historically been as stubborn as a mule when it comes to these things. Best of luck.
The Bears announced an indefinite period of not allowing fans to attend games, per NFL.com. I’m not sure whether Bears fans should be disappointed or thankful.
The story of Derrius Guice gets even worse, per Fox News, as it was announced that the now-former Football Team running back had been arrested for reckless driving back in June. This news came on the heels of felony charges along with several other charges stemming from several ugly alleged incidents involving violence against his significant other, which prompted The Football Team to release.....The Now Former Running Back.
We come to today’s media selection:
I still say this is the best Super Bowl performance ever. Enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t wash your hands, touch each other’s faces often, and try the finger food
