Monday Open Thread; August 3, 2020

Happy Monday, everyone!

Wow, August is here already, which means a couple things. 1. Summer is winding down, and fall will be here before we know it. For those of us living in the upper midwest, fall arrives much sooner than those of you fortunate souls living in the southern tier of the country. We start gearing up for fall about 23 minutes after summer starts, and 2. Football is MIGHT BE just around the corner. I really don’t know what to expect, so I’ll just expect nothing and I won’t be surprised by anything that might happen. That way, if the unexpected does happen, I won’t be caught off-guard, because I wasn’t expecting anything, so it wouldn’t be unexpected.. Make sense? Good.

Also from Chris, the Vikings are reportedly finalizing a contract extension with Rick Spielman. @I’m sure this won’t be the subject of much debate in the comments@

Other Vikings/NFL news, and random oddities and annoyances:

The Jets released guard Brian Winters to free up cap space, per NFL.com. Winters played seven seasons for the Jets, and played on the left side for a couple seasons, and on the right for the past five seasons.

SI.com wonders if the Vikings should pick Winters up now that he’s a free agent.

ESPN highlights the best of Sunday’s NFL training camps, and they highlight one of my favorite former Vikings over in Carolina.

After learning he’d be suspended for the first 8 games of the 2020 NFL season for “multiple violations of the league’s personal conduct policy” (getting convicted of burglary & assault, and being accused of rape and sued gets you half the punishment as AD got????!!!!!??!?), Antonio Brown vowed to deliver the best season of his career, per Sports Illustrated (thoughts in parentheses are mine). He also said he was retiring just last week, so I’m not sure I’d chisel any of his statements in stone.
