Here Is The Plan

Alrighty then!

Someone thinks they know that the salary cap will be 180 million. Greedy owners! Yes, I know, they split the profits 50/50 and the profits are way down. But the value of the teams is still increasing by tens of millions per year despite the pandemic and it is the players who have risked their lives. Greedy owners!

But, OK, moving on. 180 million cap let's say. That puts the Vikings about 6.6 million over the cap and needing maybe, let us say, 3.4 million to sign the rookie class (we don't know what picks will be traded and 10 million is a nice round number.)

So, in a sense, 10 million over. That ain't bad! We can work with that!

If we were to, for instance, cut Kyle Rudolph (sorry Kyle) and Shamar Stephen (sorry Shamar) and designate Rudolph as a post June 1 cut, then we save 11.75 million.

BAM!

Voila, 1.75 million UNDER the cap. Just like that, Bob's Your Uncle!

Then what? What if we part ways with Riley Reiff (sorry Riley)? We save a whole 'nother 11.75 million!

Then what?

Use that money to sign premiere sacking entering his prime 4-3 DE Trey Hendrickson (13.5 sacks this year despite missing time). It helps us and hurts the Saints! A double win!

Then we don't need to use the #1 pick on a DE. What about OL and LT in particular?

Use our #1 pick on an OL. I'd love Rashawn Slater at #14 but he may not be there.

In which case Chistian Darrisaw or Alijah Vera-Tucker would be great.

Now, what else?

Restructure Barr and Smith, and a few others get paid as much but some of their money goes into 2022 when the cap may pop way back up. BAM! Another 10 million or maybe 15 million.

Then what?

Resign Anthony Harris.

End result?

*We take no losses of significance.

*We replace our aging possibly disgruntled tackle with another OL who has a higher ceiling but higher risk. However, we have to do this either this year or next year anyway and hopefully next year our draft pick is not high for picking a premier OL. We cross the bridge a little early but likely wisely.

*We even add a pro bowl level premiere pass rusher who addresses our #1 general need -- Defense -- and our #1 need within that need -- pass rush.

Do you Vike it?
