A couple of days ago, we passed along the news that the LSU Tigers were going to interview Minnesota Vikings’ defensive backs coach Daronte Jones for their vacant offensive coordinator position.
Well, he must have made one hell of an impression.
SOURCE: #Vikings DB coach Daronte Jones is expected to become the new DC at #LSU. Jones, a protege of Dave Aranda coached under the ex Tigers DC when he was at Wisconsin. Jones, who spent the day interviewing w/ Ed Orgeron, was DC for 5 yrs at Bowie St. and had the No. 1 D in D2.

According to Bruce Feldman, who writes about college football for The Athletic, the Tigers will be hiring Jones to be their new defensive coordinator. This means that the Vikings will have another vacancy to fill on their coaching staff, along with their openings at offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator.
Jones was with the Vikings for just one season, coming on board with the Vikings this past season to replace Jerry Gray. He received a great deal of praise for his work with an incredibly young secondary, including a pair of rookies in Cameron Dantzler and Jeff Gladney that made great strides during the course of their first years in the league. . .no mean feat, given that the 2020 preseason was remarkably different from what other rookies have experienced.
No word has emerged on who might be among the favorites to fill Jones’ spot on the Vikings’ sidelines as things stand right now. But, if anything changes, we will bring you the news straight away.
Congratulations to Daronte Jones on what appears to be his impending hire as the new defensive coordinator of the LSU Tigers!
