Happy Tuesday, everyone!
I hope you’re all settling in for the long off-season, because it will be LONG, even if we don’t get another rendition of the plague to throw next season into chaos. The Vikings off-season started yesterday (well, maybe it started a few weeks ago, depends on your perspective, I suppose), and it will be a different off-season in that fans won’t really be able to argue over whether the Vikings should throw big money at free agents. No, we’ll be arguing over how the team is going to somehow pull cap room out of their........out of the air in order to sign players. They’re going to have to do some creative accounting just to sign their draft picks, they’re going to have to do some government accounting if they want to sign any free agents. As of now, per Spotrac, the Vikings have just under negative $16.8 million dollars of cap room for 2021 with their current roster. Yeah, NEGATIVE $16.8 million. For those of you who like to fire everyone and run to the nearest “Cheap Player Outlet Mall”, that won’t work either, most of the top salary earners also have significant dead cap hits to go along with their contracts. You could cut Harrison Smith without a dead cap hit, but then you just cut one of the better safeties in the game and you have nobody to replace him, so in my opinion, that wouldn’t be wise. There will be some difficult decisions ahead, and no easy answers for the front office. I’m glad I’m not in their shoes right now.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Gary Kubiak is leaning towards retirement........and Vikings fans are leaning toward drinking.....those who haven’t started already, that is. Good grief, I’m tired of offensive coordinators.
From Chris, the Vikings will select at #14 in the upcoming draft. Whether they’ll have the cap room to sign someone remains to be seen.

Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:
NY Giants HC Joe Judge isn’t very happy with the Eagles and the way they limped through their final game per NFL.com. It was a pretty chicken s*** move, the Eagles basically laid down and died instead of trying to win their final game, they inserted their 3rd string QB who played like.......a 3rd string QB. They did this despite the fact that their 1st and 2nd string QBs were both healthy. A win by the Eagles would have given the Giants the division, but the classless move by Philly (big shocker there) handed the division to The Team With No Name.
NFL.com has an NFL GM and coaching tracker where you can keep up with the latest hirings.
The Chargers have fired Anthony Lynn after 4 years as their head coach, per ESPN.
We come to today’s media selection:
Here’s a perfect song to describe the Vikings hunt for an offensive coordinator. Enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, and if you know of any shady accountants, invite them in and we’ll buy them one....or two......or three.....
