We’re half-way through another week, it’s a downhill coast into another weekend

NFL: Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Merry hump day, everyone!

Alright, so the team can tell the search party to add one more coordinator to the list. Marwan Malouf will not be brought back in 2021, and I’ll assume that Zimmer and Company have their reasons. The special teams unit was not good this year, and although I don’t put the blame on the coordinator when Bailey shanks an extra point 14 miles to the left of the goal posts, there were multiple failings of various types that seemed to happen continually throughout the season. I understand that there were a lot of young players thrust into starting special teams roles, and many who were going to start were pulled from that unit so they could start on defense, and were replaced by even younger, less experienced players on the special teams units, but that’s kinda the nature of the beast with that group, and you have to have more continuity and fewer blunders than the Vikings had with their special teams units this year, so it’s probably best that the team looks for a new person to lead that group.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Wludford brings you Mike Zimmer’s end of season press conference transcript.

Arif was here! He dropped off Norse Code Podcast Episode 363: Done and Dusted.

The Vikings will be looking for a special teams coordinator as they announced that they will not bring back Marwan Malouf in 2021.

AdmiralBigGun wants to thank all of you who donated, and he hasn’t taken the polar plunge yet, so there’s still time if you want to contribute.

Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:

The Texans have hired Nick Caserio as their new GM, per FoxSports. Caserio was previously the Patriots’ director of player personnel. I’m not sure what the Director of Player Personnel is......actually, I’m not sure what ‘player personnel’ is. Players are personnel, so the term “Player Personnel” is redundant. It’s the same as being the Director of Players Players, or bieng the Director of Personnel Personnel. Odd.

From NFL.com, former Chargers HC Anthony Lynn said it was an absolute privilege to coach the Chargers. The Vikings may have an open offensive coordinator position soon, and coordinators’ salaries don’t count against the salary cap, so........

The Pro Football Hall Of Fame class of 2021 finalists have been revealed, NFL.com has the details.

The Rams will announce the starting QB for Saturday’s playoff game.....probably on Saturday, per NFL.com.

CBS Sports explains why the Eagles and Pederson crossed the line. I agree with this, I think it was a chicken s*** move.

We come to today’s media selection:

Seems appropriate. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip the cows and settle in, it’s going to be a long off season.
