Good Morning!
No you didn’t stumble into one of my Open Threads by accident, I want to talk about Coral, specifically I want all of us to to discuss Coral as a commenting platform.
I haven’t lost my mind, and yes I hate Coral as much as the rest of you (if not more because it made my job here more difficult) but I’ve been emailing/calling/Twitter dm’ing the Coral developers about how clunky our commenting experience is since the change from Chorus to Coral.
After months of @very polite badgering@ with very limited change or success, I had mostly given up until I was talking to Benjaman about this subject. He gave me the name of the Coral developer he arranged a Zoom meeting with and found the experience gave the Coral developers a better insight as to why we’re unhappy as a group and how Coral has gutted our community. I could quickly list 20-30 people I used to interact with here on a daily basis at The Daily Norseman that no longer comment at all.
This is where all of you come in; I’m not one of those people who think they have all the answers. I’d like legitimate suggestions I can bring to the Coral developer from us that can improve our commenting experience, I’ll start.
There are some moderator features that were included with Chorus that aren’t available in Coral, I’ll address those myself.
- Coral sucks. Okay, we all know this one so I’ll get it out of the way. This isn’t helping.
- The “Z” key.
- Color change with new comments.
- Up arrow to an anchored comment (that’s the first comment in a series that gets replies) or comment someone replied too.
I’m open to suggestions after this shortlist, my Zoom meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 11am ET so you’ll have until then. My goal is to try and return the commenting section of all the articles here at The Daily Norseman to their former robust level, because let’s face it, 150 comments on an Open Thread wasn’t even 9 am a few years ago.
Thanks for your time.
Rob
