Weekend Open Thread

New York City Gears Up For Valentine’s Day Amid Pandemic Restrictions Photo by Alexi Rosenfeld/Getty Images

Good Morning!

It’s an anniversary weekend of sorts for myself and mrs_rob, our first date was 29 years ago Sunday, which is of course Valentine’s Day. Appropriate responses to this knowledge are “congratulations” or “yore old.” Normally we celebrate by going out to dinner at the fancy schmancy French place my wife likes, but of course we can’t; I blame Ponder, Coral and Covid but not necessarily in that order.

The big football news from yesterday was of course the Houston Texans releasing JJ Watt at his request, I understand the move by the team as he was going to be an early cut casualty (due 17.5M this year, he’s 31 and has been injured a lot in the last few years) and JJ gets a head start on free agency as he can sign with any team he chooses....no, it won’t be the Vikings, stop thinking that.

My Coral post is still on the front page, if you have time leave a comment or suggestion I can take to the developers please leave it there.

Look for the mailbag post on Monday.

Meanwhile we’ll carry on with our news and links open thread full of crockpot recipes, nap strategies and beer recommendations; drop by for some fan wisdom, snark and it’s the weekend, time to check the beer menu fire up that mock draft simulator, it’s going to be a long offseason.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

The one where we talk about Coral.

(sidenote-hahahahahahahahahahahaha)

We come to today’s media selection: J. Geils Band - Love Stinks
(yes, I do this every year)

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on. Don’t forget to wash your hands, tip your waiter from a safe distance, try the tiger meat, and Welcome Aboard!
