Merry Groundhog Day, everyone!
This will be brief, I’m up WAY later than I care to be, been getting some tax stuff submitted and I’m wiped, and I have to get some rest so I’m ready for tomorrow, especially with all the chaos and mayhem that surrounds Groundhog Day.
I have been passively keeping up on the Cousins trade rumors, and to be honest, I’ve kept my fingers crossed that it happens. I don’t put a lot of stock into rumors, I’d take everything you hear with a grain of salt.........actually, take everything you hear with a salt block. That being said, I think that if (and that’s a big if), IF the rumors are true that the Vikings are working a trade to move Cousins, I think it’s the right move. I don’t mind Cousins, I think he’s a slightly above average quarterback. What I do mind is his contract coupled with his level of play. If you allocate 1/6 or more of your salary cap to one player, then that player has to give your team something so special that his play will overcome the multitude of weaknesses that your team will have due to the lack of salary cap room created by that massive contract. Cousins does not give you that, in my opinion.
I heard a rumor at one point yesterday (get out your salt block) that said the 49ers offered Garoppolo along with a 2nd and 4th for Cousins, and that Rick was holding out for a first. If I were Rick, I’d have taken the offer, unless he’s dead sure that they’ll offer more. I’m all for holding out for a better deal, but sometimes, that will lose the deal for you, and in this case, that would be a big mistake. I’m not a huge fan of Garoppolo, but his contract gives you MANY options, and you rid the team of the albatross and restrictive contract that Rick (foolishly) created with that contract extension. If he has a chance to un-do that mistake, he’d be a fool to pass it up. They’d have some breathing room in the salary cap, and have the draft picks at a time when they sorely need them.
Then again, there could likely be zero truth to the rumors, or they could be completely true....most likely somewhere in between.

ESPN uses six tiers to rank how close each NFL team is to reaching the Super Bowl.
Jason Pierre-Paul said of Mike Remmers “I didn’t even know who that was”, per NFL.com. Remmers will be starting at left tackle for the Chiefs to replace the injured Eric Fisher. You’ll recall that Remmers started at left tackle for the Panthers in Super Bowl 50 when he went up against Von Miller. It didn’t go so well for Remmers.
Here is ESPN’s transaction page, just in case.
