The positions begin to fill

The Vikings beat the Atlanta Falcons in the season opener in Atlanta Sunday. — Vikings kicker Mitch Berger is congratulated as he leaves the field after recovering a fumble of his kickoff by the Falcons’ Tim Dwight in the second quarter Sunday afternoon.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I meant to mention this yesterday and forgot, but that penalty they called on Winfield Jr. toward the end of the game Sunday was dumb. He held up two fingers to Tyreek Hill.......and he got a personal foul taunting penalty. Are these guys so fragile that they have to be protected from having someone hold up two fingers and smile at them? Good grief, they wouldn’t have made it 3 minutes in construction, we were friggin brutal to each other. Anyway, I think the penalty was dumb.

The Vikings found their new offensive coordinator. Well, I guess he’s technically not new, he’s used. No, as you likely already know, the Vikings promoted Klint Kubiak to the position of offensive coordiator, from his role of Vikings’ quarterbacks coach, where he’s been since 2019. The move was expected by most. I don’t think Gary Kubiak planned to retire until his son was ready to take the reigns, so his retirement was an indicator that Klint was going to be promoted, and it became almost certain once the team filled the WR coach position, they wouldn’t make that move without an offensive coordinator. I don’t feel one way or the other about the hire, some people don’t like it because it reeks of nepotism, and they may be right, but they could be wrong, as it may also be possible that Zimmer and the front office thought the kid could excel at the job. Best of luck to Klint, I hope he’s a budding Grant (budding Grant......get it?), the version of Grant without the angry, deranged Super Bowl god hounding his a**.

Not a good hire. We could have done better, but he might get lucky and win a few games.

Worst hire on earth, until their next hire, which will become the worst on earth, making this the second-worst. Now back away, you don’t want to get too close to this torch. Oh, and have you seen my pitchfork?

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Chris has details on the Klint Kubiak to offensive coordinator promotion/hire.

Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:

This is an interesting tidbit from the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys released their 2021 hype video, and QB Dak Prescott is not included in the video at all. Here’s a link to the video.

The Cowboys say that it was “an oversight”. Sure it was.

From Sports Illustrated, the Seahawks have released veteran G Chance Warmack. You know, it’s going to be a different off-season on the DN, with negative millions in salary cap, we can’t even argue over whether to sign every moderately decent player who is released.

QB Josh Rosen signed a one-year deal with the 49ers, per NFL.com.

We come to today’s media selection:

Let’s play some Primus. Here’s My Name is Mud. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer

-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip the cows and settle in, it’s going to be a long off season.
