Merry Wednesday, DN faithful!
That’s right, we’ve reached the peak of this work week, and we should now be able to sit back and relax as we coast into another wonderful weekend. I’m sure you’re all aware that the Vikings cut Dan Bailey. If you weren’t aware, you are now (sorry if I ruined the ending for you). The move didn’t shock me, to be honest. I don’t think it had as much to do with the horrible stretch of games he endured last year as it did with cap space. Yeah, the crappy stretch of botched kicks made the decision easier, but the team is strapped for cap space, and they’re stretching their pennies as much as they can, and cutting Bailey gives them a few pennies, but not much more than that. Bailey signed a 3-year deal last year, so while the team will free up $1.7 million in cap space, they will once again add more dead money against the cap, this time to the tune of $2.1 million. After many years of wise contract management and very little dead money against their salary cap, the Vikings front office is trending in an undesirable direction.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
For your listening enjoyment, tune in to Vikings Report With Drew And Ted, Episode 10.
As I mentioned above, the Vikings cut Kicker Dan Bailey.
Other Vikings/NFL news:
From UPI, with no scouting combine this year, prospects are looking to light it up at their pro days in order to move up the draft boards.
Here’s a tracker at NFL.com where you can see all the latest signings, trades, and other NFL transactions.
We come to today’s media selection:
Watching the front office scrape pennies together made me think of this song. Enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip the cows and settle in, this part of the season gets long and boring.
