We are officially back with the seventh installment of our Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database for the 2021 NFL Draft. We took a week off for personal reasons and to allow things to re-calibrate after a couple of significant moves took place around the National Football League, and now we have a shift in what position mock drafters everywhere are predicting the Vikings to address when the draft comes around in just 17 days.

This week we have 90 mocks making up our Database. . .I was going to shoot for 100 for this installment, but couldn’t quite find enough that had been updated within the appropriate time frame. The overwhelming majority of these have been updated within the past week, so it should be a pretty accurate reflection of the consensus. With that, here are our mocks for this week.

Again, mocks that appear in italics are those that involve the Vikings making a trade. You can click on the links to those mocks to get the full context of what was involved.

We have a pretty significant change in this week’s Database, as the offensive linemen have taken over at the top of the heap as far as which position is most selected by the draftniks. The offensive linemen got 43 of the 90 selections in this week’s Database, and they’re largely divvied up among three players. Christian Darrisaw of Virginia Tech is now the overall leader in the Database with 20 selection, while Alijah Vera-Tucker of USC slots in with 12 and Rashawn Slater of Northwestern appears 10 times. Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi picked up one selection as well.

That drops the defensive linemen down to the second spot. Michigan defensive end Kwity Paye leads that position group with 15 selections, while Miami’s Gregory Rousseau, who has been our leader throughout much of this process so far, received eight selection. Rousseau’s college teammate, Jaelan Phillips, picked up six picks this week, while Alabama’s Christian Barmore was mocked to the Vikings three times. Penn State defensive end Jayson Oweh was selected by the Vikings in two of our mocks this week. Overall, 34 mock drafters tabbed the Vikings to take a defensive lineman this week.

Defensive backs are next up, as they garnered nine selections this week. The majority of those went to South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn, who was picked five times for the Vikings in this week’s update. Four other players. . .Patrick Surtain II of Alabama, Caleb Farley of Virginia Tech, Trevon Moehrig of Texas Christian, and Greg Newsome of Northwestern. . .each received one selection. Newsome is our lone new name in the Database this week.

Linebackers were selected three times this week, with Penn State’s Micah Parsons receiving two selections and Georgia’s Azeez Ojulari getting one. The last selection went to the lone pass catcher in our Database this week, as Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has re-entered the Database with one selection.

Throughout the process of tracking this through our Database this season, there have been 27 different players that have popped up for us to track. Of those 27, 17 of them appear in this week’s update.

Here’s what the graphic breakdown of this week’s Database looks like, courtesy of our Donut Graph. As always, the picture may be embiggened for ease of viewing by clicking on it.

We’ve also got this week’s trends graph, which shows how players have risen and fallen over the course of the seven iterations of this season’s Database. You can click on this one to embiggen it as well.

I would have to go back through past Databases and have a look, but I think this might be the first time that we’ve seen the primarily selected position for the Vikings change over the course of the pre-draft process. Usually the Vikings have a pretty well-defined need and that ends up being the focus throughout the offseason, but now we’ve seen a significant shift based on free agency and other factors.

In any event, that’s our Mock Draft Database for this week, folks. We’ll be back with another update this weekend. . .or on a day that’s weekend-adjacent. In any case, we’ll be here.
