Here a mock, there a mock, everywhere a mock mock

Robert Smith #26...

Merry Tuesday, everyone!

Hey, in response to some discussions I’ve had, or have listened to, or have overheard, regarding the reilability of 40 times this year since they’re all coming from a player’s pro day, I have a dumb question. Wanna hear it? Oh, I see......... Well, I’m going to ask it anyway. You know how they have those “next-gen” stats (I hate cliches, but I don’t know how else to describe these stats. If they were truly, “next-gen” stats, they’d be clocking the speed of the next generation, and many of those people haven’t been born yet, so that’s a dumb term, but oh well, I didn’t make it up, and I normally don’t use it.). Anyway, you know how they have those “next-gen” stats, right? Then they have 145 billion camera angles, and they now have goofy stats that use a calculation that is based on the count of the number of sweat droplets per second that a player sheds from his right forearm when he spins left while being tackled from the right side at a 32.3 degree angle by a defender who has a minimum of a 99:102 weight ratio with the runner. Anyway, if they can count the hairs per square inch on a player’s arm using a camera that’s 100 yards away, can’t they use those same cameras to clock the time it takes a player to run 40 yards? That would seem to be a much easier thing to calculate (and far more useful) than some of the other goofy stuff they’re babbling about all the time. I don’t know, maybe I’m just dumb, but that seems to be a simple solution.

Around the DN since our last open thread:

Chris has v7.0 of the 2021 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft Database.

Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:

From SI.com, the Jaguars reportedly had early interest in Giovanni Bernard, who has now signed with the Buccanneers. Is it just me, or do the Jaguars attempt to sign every free agent in the NFL? It sure seems like we get one of these reports after every free agent signing. “Free agent So-and-So signed with Such-and Such NFL team today. The Jaguars reportedly had early interest in signing So-and-So, but they were unsuccessful........again.”

TE Thaddeus Moss, son of Randy Moss, has been claimed by the Bengals, per NFL.com. Moss was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Team With No Name last year, but didn’t register a snap. He’ll reunite with his LSU teammate and QB Joe Burrow in Cinci.

From Boston.com, Julian Edelman officially announced his retirement from the NFL, the story contains a link to his Twitter retirement announcement.

We come to today’s media selection:

We finally got some rain here in the northern Dakota, so I want to play a rain song. This is what came to mind, so here you go. Enjoy!

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip the cows, and settle in, it’s starting to get exciting.
