One year ago, the Vikings couldn’t believe Justin Jefferson was there

And, frankly, neither could we

The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft was exactly one year ago today, and the Minnesota Vikings have given us a little reminder that they got a guy that they, apparently, did not expect to be there.

If you remember, shortly after the draft the team released some of the “behind the scenes” footage of the team going through their selection process, what with the draft being done in a virtual format for the first time due to COVID-19. In the video, you see Rick Spielman, Mike Zimmer, and other members of the Vikings’ front office waiting for the Philadelphia Eagles to make their pick at #21 so that they could take their turn.

With analysts speculating that the Eagles would take a wide receiver, the Vikings are absolutely shocked. . .and delighted. . .when Philadelphia takes Jalen Reagor at #21. That’s because that selection allowed the Vikings to select Louisiana State wide receiver Justin Jefferson at #22.

That pick worked out pretty well, wouldn’t you say?

With teams actually being allowed to put together their “war rooms” in a more traditional manner for this year’s draft, I don’t know if we’ll be getting any of the same sort of footage of this year’s draft selections that we got from last year. Even if we do, however, it would be tough to top this wonderful clip from last year.

We’re just six days away from the draft folks. Once again, it looks like we’re actually going to make it.
