Prior to last year’s draft, one of the things that the National Football League had been doing on draft weekend was having former players or other people involved with the various organizations to announce draft picks on Day 2, which encompasses the second and third round. With the draft taking on a (slightly) more normal feel this season, that tradition is back, and the Minnesota Vikings will be getting involved.
It has been announced that Hall of Fame defensive tackle John Randle will be announcing at least one of the Vikings’ picks on Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Randle, of course, was an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M-Kingsville that signed with the Vikings in 1990. He went on to an outstanding career with the Vikings and was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2010. He spent 11 seasons with the Vikings, garnering First-Team All-Pro honors for six consecutive seasons from 1993 to 1998.
As it stands right now, the Vikings don’t have a second-round pick in this year’s draft, so unless that changes the earliest that Randle will step to the podium is when the Vikings pick at #78 overall in the third round. I have a funny feeling that the Vikings are going to find themselves on the clock again before that point, however.
So, if you’re going to be watching the draft this weekend. . .and, for crying out loud, why wouldn’t you. . .the big dog is going to appear on your television screen at some point on Friday evening.
