Draft week is finally here!

John Randle

Happy Monday, everyone!

Alright, we’ve finally made it to draft week. Day one of the draft will be this Thursday with the draft broadcast beginning at 7:00 central. There are numerous options for you to watch the draft this year, including YouTube. You can find the schedule, broadcast options, and nearly anything else regarding the event on the NFL.com NFL Draft home page.

With the 14th overall pick in the draft, it’s impossible to predict who the Vikings will select in the first round, or even whether they’ll select a player in the first round, as we all know about Rick’s “10 total picks” preference, and he has traded back in the first round at times in the recent past, or traded out of the first round altogether in order to acquire more picks or if he feels there is no value where they are in the first. I could see them doing that again this year, or if a player falls unexpectedly, such as if Sewell or Farley would surprisingly be available as the 10th pick is approaching, I could see Rick try to move up a couple spots to get them (I don’t see that happening, but you never know). We’ll find out in fewer than 4 days from now. SKOL!

Around the DN since our last open thread:

wludford ponders whether the Vikings could select a future starting quarterback in this year’s draft (see what I did there? Ponders?). wludford is doubtful, and I agree, I don’t see it happening this year.

One of my all-time favorite Vikings, John Randle, will announce a day two draft pick for the Vikings, Chris has the details.

Patrick Peterson announced that his number will change, from Chris. Also, Peterson had to pay to get that number 7. He’s just lucky that the Vikings hadn’t retired that number yet, those jersey retirements take some time, and Ponder has only been gone a few years, so it’s still available.

The Vikings could use a defensive end, so wludford looks at which defensive end they may target in the draft.

Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:

According to NFL.com, the 49ers are focused on Alabama QB Mac Jones and NDSU QB Trey Lance with the 3rd overall selection that they acquired from the Dolphins.

FoxSports has a list of the best and worst NFL 1st round draft picks for each team.

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip the cows, and settle in, it’s starting to get exciting.
