With the 199th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have selected Jaylen Twyman, a defensive tackle from the University of Pittsburgh.
After an outstanding season in 2019 that saw him named as a Second-Team All-American and a First-Team All-ACC selection, Twyman opted out of the 2020 season because of concerns over COVID-19.
Dane Brugler of The Athletic has Twyman as the #15 defensive tackle in this year’s draft class. Here’s what Brugler has to say about Twyman:
His size and anchor limitations will show in the run game and his below average pro day performance was a red flag for scouts. Overall, Twyman can be overwhelmed at the point of attack, but his competitive nature and arsenal of pass rush moves will keep him on an NFL field if he performs up to his potential. He projects best as an under tackle in a four-man front who can be aggressively schemed up and down the line.
It looks like Twyman is going to be a guy that has an opportunity to work into the rotation on the interior. It’s possible that he could have gone higher had he played this past season, but I’m perfectly okay with having him fall right to the Vikings at this spot.
