2021 NFL Draft Grades: What do you think of the Minnesota Vikings’ selection of Patrick Jones?

Some edge help for the defense

With the last of their four third-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings finally got around to addressing the edge rusher position with the selection of Pittsburgh defensive end Patrick Jones.

There were plenty of people that were surprised that Jones was selected ahead of his Pitt teammate, Rashad Weaver. However, Jones was incredibly productive in his own right, having garnered First-Team All-ACC honors with the Panthers this past season. He doesn’t seem to fit the athletic profile that the Vikings seem to pursue with the defensive ends they draft, but it appears that they found his productivity at the college level intriguing enough to take a flyer on.

I don’t know if Jones is going to walk right in and start immediately, but his pass rush skills should, at the very least, allow him to make a solid contribution as part of the Vikings’ defensive line rotation pretty early on.

Let us know what you think of the selection, folks!
