Happy Thursday, everyone!
Man, we took the boat out for a cruise on the river last night, and it was an absolutely perfect evening. Little to no wind, warm and sunny, the boat was running like it was brand new, and we had an enjoyable evening. We pulled back to the dock early since kiddo had school in the morning, which timed out perfectly, I had the boat strapped down on the trailer, and we were relaxing down by the river, building things in the sand and watched a perfect sunset. One of those nights when you really notice nature, you take in everything around you, and you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that someone is up there guiding the ship. What a night.
I was saddened to see that Jerry Burns passed away, Chris has more details below. I’ve told this story before, but my wife and I met Jerry Burns’ daughter. My wife and I were flying back from Minneapolis after a Vikings game, and the flight attendant stopped by our seats to chat when she saw our jerseys. One of us asked if she was a Vikings fan, and she said, “Oh, you bet I am, I really didn’t have much choice. My dad worked for them, he was one of their coaches a long time ago.” I asked who he was. She said “Oh, you probably don’t know him, it was a long time ago, his name is Jerry Burns”. My eyes got as big as dinner plates, I said “Holy s**t, are you serious? He’s one of my favorite coaches of all time!”. She was surprised that I knew who he was, and at first, I don’t know that she really believed me, but as I kept yammering, she realized I actually did remember him. She stayed there and chatted with us for most of the flight (which really isn’t a long time, I’m guessing most of your commutes to work take longer than that flight). Anyway, she was a very nice lady, and I’m glad we got to meet her. I think it made her very happy to know that people still remember her dad. My condolences to her and the rest of their family for their loss.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Chris shared the sad news that Jerry Burns passed away.
Chris also shared a link to the greatest f***ing press conference of all time, given by the late Jerry Burns, may he rest in peace.
Here’s the newly released 2021 Vikings regular season schedule. Yeah, none of my guesses were even close, I was the wrongiest wrongier that ever wronged.
From GASkol, the Wilf family bought Orlando City SC, the Orlando Pride, and Exploria Stadium. At first, I thought they’d bought a city in South Carolina and one of the stadiums on Mario Kart 8, but after reading, I appears they’d just bought a couple teams that play the atrocity known as soccer. I have no clue what the SC means, I think it must be an acronym for Sleep Constantly, since that’s what people in the stands do........when they aren’t rioting. Congrats.....or condolences.....to the Wilfs. (I hope Rob is reading this....hee hee)
Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:
FoxNews has a string of stories, one for each team listing their 2021 schedules. That’s about all I could find, after filtering out all the stories with people losing their damn minds over Tebow being signed by Jacksonville. Judging by the screaming, you’d think that the Jaguars had hired Hitler or Charles Manson as their personnel director or something. Good grief.
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip the cows, and settle in and join the party.
