Merry Tuesday, everyone!
Hey, we have actual football-y news stories to argue abo.....I mean, to comment on.......I mean....on which to comment. That’s the correct way, I think. You aren’t supposed to end a sentence with a preposition, they say. I’m no geology major, so I’m not sure, to be honest. When you think about it, that means that you can’t end a proposition with a preposition, either.
Anyway, football-y stories.
First, I’ll start by reminding everyone of the prediction I made when the team traded Mike Hughes to the Chiefs for four pieces of bubble gum and a bag of popcorn. I mentioned that I felt that the team was going to make a fairly big splash with a trade or free agent signing for a cornerback. I remind you because if they’re going to do that, it’s likely to happen after June 1st, which is about a week away. Stay tuned, we’ll see if I’m full of s***, which would not be unprecedented.
Things that actually have happened: The team signed another center, and a couple of linebackers are back on the practice field, as Cameron Smith and Anthony Barr are both back after injuries. Barr suffered a torn pectoral in that week two s*** show against the Colts, and Cameron Smith underwent surgery for an enlarged heart. The fact that Smith is able to play again is amazing, I’ll be rooting hard for him, and he should get a chance to see the field this year, as the team doesn’t have a ton of depth behind Barr and Kendricks. The team signed Cohl Cabrai off of waivers from the Texans. Cabral played college ball at Arizona State, then after going undrafted, spent some time in 2020 on the practice squads of the Rams then the Texans, and was released by the Texans over the weekend. Hey, add some competition and see if someone shines, you never know. Git ‘r done. SKOL!
Around the DN since our last open thread:
Chris has details on Cameron Smith returning to the practice field.
Also, an update on the Vikings claiming Cohl Cabral on waivers from the Texans.
Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:
Sports Illustrated shows us where the Vikings offensive players fall in PFF’s 2021 positional rankings.
The USA Today gauges the odds of Mike Zimmer winning coach of the year. I’d like to know what the odds are that within the past 3 months, the same writer who wrote this also did a piece on the odds of Mike Zimmer being fired. Hey, I’m a huge fan of Zimmer, and I’d love to see the man win the award, because that would mean that the Vikings are going to have a tremendous year, and that is something I would love to see happen. Right now, they have him at +2,500, which is 13th among NFL head coaches. They have Stefanski as the odds-on favorite? Okay, I’ll go ahead and remove that entire story from my memory, because that’s.......goofy.
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls
-Take the gender hatred elsewhere, it won’t be tolerated
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)|
-If discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags|
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t forget to tip the cows, and settle in and join the party.
