Perhaps he’ll be back

The Minnesota Vikings are in the process of cutting their final roster down to 53 players by 3:00 PM Central this afternoon, and they’ve just announced that they’re parting ways with a player that there were high hopes for not too long ago.

The team has announced that they have waived guard Dru Samia as part of the final cuts. He is being waived with an injury designation, meaning that if he clears waivers he will go to the Vikings’ injured reserve list.

Samia was a fourth-round pick of the Vikings in 2019 and essentially redshirted in his rookie season. He got a couple of starts in 2020 when Pat Elflein was injured and, ultimately, waived, and struggled significantly in that role before giving way to Ezra Cleveland.

It’s possible that the team will look to bring Samia back to the practice squad, but that’s something we’ll have to wait and see on.

We will continue to track all of the Vikings’ final roster cuts on our Roster Cut Tracker, which you can find right here.
