NFL Roster Cuts: Minnesota Vikings cut Tye Smith

He will be a free agent

NFL: Minnesota Vikings Training Camp Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

With the team pushing to get their roster down to 53 players by the 3:00 PM Central deadline, the Minnesota Vikings have said goodbye to one of their cornerbacks.

Rumors have it that the Vikings will release veteran cornerback Tye Smith as a part of their final cuts.

Smith has been in the NFL since 2015 and was signed by the Vikings to a veteran minimum deal back in June. He had an opportunity to compete for a spot as a backup cornerback in camp, but was not able to distinguish himself enough to grab one of those places.

With the moves that the Vikings made at the cornerback position this offseason, Smith was a bit of a longshot to make the roster. With his NFL tenure, he will become a free agent and have the ability to sign with another team immediately.
