With Irv Smith Jr.’s season officially over, the Minnesota Vikings have doubled up on new acquisitions at the tight end position in the past couple of days.
The team made a trade with the New York Jets to acquire Chris Herndon yesterday, and today we have learned that they claimed tight end Ben Ellefson off of waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Ellefson, a native of Hawley, Minnesota, played his college football at North Dakota State University and went undrafted in 2020. He spent last season on the Jaguars’ practice squad but was elevated to the active roster for several games. On the active roster, he caught one pass for ten yards.
Ellefson is the only player that the Vikings claimed off of waivers according to the league’s transaction wire. The waiver priority list is based on last year’s draft order, so the Vikings currently sit at #14 on that list. So, I would like to think that they put claims in on more players than just Ellefson, but they were beaten out for them by the teams that are ahead of them on the list.
The Vikings have another tight end in the fold, folks. What do you think of the move?
