With Dalvin Cook on the shelf for their Week 3 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, the Minnesota Vikings turned to Alexander Mattison to carry the load on the ground in a must-win game. He responded with the best performance of his career, and now he’s getting recognized for it.
Mattison is one of three nominees for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week Award for Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season.
Mattison had his way with the Seattle defense for most of the afternoon on Sunday, as he picked up his second career 100-yard game. He finished the afternoon with 112 yards on 26 carries, and even though he did not find his way into the end zone, he was a huge part of an offense that dominated the second half at U.S. Bank Stadium as the Vikings salted away their first victory of 2021.
His competition this week is Tennessee Titans’ running back Derrick Henry, who ran for 113 yards on 28 carries in Tennesse’s victory over Indianapolis, and Las Vegas Raiders’ running back Peyton Barber, who ran for 111 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in the Raiders’ overtime win over Miami.
It would be pretty awesome if Mattison could bring home the FedEx Ground Player of the Week Award for Week 3, so head on over to the link above and cast your vote for him. You can also vote for him via the embedded tweet below, so get to it! Polls are open until 2:00 PM Central time on Wednesday.
