San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings: Second quarter recap and third quarter discussion

The good guys are up by two scores

It’s halftime of tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup in Minneapolis, and your Minnesota Vikings lead the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 16-7.

The Niners started the quarter with the football, and an incomplete pass on third down set up a 40-yard field goal attempt by rookie Jake Moody. Moody pushed the kick wide to the right, keeping the Minnesota lead at 7-0.

The Vikings moved the ball down the field again, and after an absolutely brilliant trick play that featured a pass from Jordan Addison to Ty Chandler was taken off the board on a questionable penalty, Minnesota found them with a first-and-goal from the San Francisco 2-yard line. Unfortunately, after Kirk Cousins threw a pass too far in front of Jordan Addison, the Vikings had to settle for a 21-yard field goal from Greg Joseph to make it 10-0 midway through the quarter.

The Niners responded with their first points of the night, going 75 yards and getting into the end zone on a 3-yard run from Christian McCaffrey to make it 10-7 with a minute remaining in the half. The Vikings slowly moved the ball down the field and Cousins attempted a long pass that looked like it was going to be the second interception of the night for Charvarius Ward, but it turned into the second touchdown of the night for Jordan Addison, as he took it out of Ward’s hands and went 60 yards for a touchdown!

And then Greg Joseph missed the extra point, so we go into the locker room with the Vikings leading, 16-7.

We’ve made it through the first half at U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Vikings lead the 49ers by a score of 16-7. Can the purple keep it up in the second half? Come join us and find out!
