Preparations for Week 17 in the NFL are officially underway, and we now have the first injury reports of the week for the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers ahead of their Sunday Night Football clash at U.S. Bank Stadium this Sunday. There are a lot of names on both lists, so let’s go ahead and get to them to see what we’ve got.

Green Bay Packers

Did Not Participate

  • LB De’Vondre Campbell (neck)
  • G Elgton Jenkins (shoulder/knee)
  • WR Christian Watson (hamstring)
  • WR Dontayvion Wicks (chest/ankle)

Limited Participation

  • RB A.J. Dillon (thumb)
  • LB Kingsley Engabare (toe)
  • RB Aaron Jones (knee/finger)
  • TE Luke Musgrave (kidney)
  • DB Jonathan Owens (knee)
  • WR Jayden Reed (toe/chest)
  • CB Robert Rochell (neck)
  • S Darnell Savage (shoulder)
  • DT Tedarrel Slaton (knee/foot)
  • LB Quay Walker (shoulder)

Full Participation

  • OT Luke Tenuta (ankle)
  • RB Emanuel Wilson (shoulder)

As you can see, the Packers have a whole lot of players on their injury report for this week. The list includes most of their running back room and a good chunk of their receiving corps. I’m not sure how severe a lot of these injuries are and how much of this is just Green Bay being careful with players at the start of the week of practice, but there’s a lot to keep track of as we get closer to Sunday’s game.

Speaking of having a lot of players on the injury report. . .

Minnesota Vikings

Did Not Participate

  • WR Jordan Addison (ankle)
  • CB Mekhi Blackmon (shoulder/illness)
  • DB Theo Jackson (toe)
  • CB Byron Murphy (knee)
  • WR Jalen Nailor (concussion)
  • DT Jaquelin Roy (ankle)

Limited Participation

  • DT Sheldon Day (ankle)
  • LB Troy Dye (wrist)
  • RB Alexander Mattison (ankle)
  • DT Harrison Phillips (back)

Full Participation

  • OT Brian O’Neill (ankle)
  • LB Ivan Pace Jr. (shoulder)

This list does not include T.J. Hockenson or D.J. Wonnum, obviously, as they were both placed on IR, ending their seasons.

Postive developments first. . .Brian O’Neill is a full participant in practice after missing the last two games with an ankle injury. Hopefully that’s a trend that will continue and he’ll be back in the lineup for this one.

Other than that, we now have WR2 (Addison), CB1 (Murphy), and CB3 (Blackmon) not practicing, along with RB2 (Mattison, I guess) and DT1 (Phillips) being limited, as well as QB1 (Kirk Cousins), TE1 (Hockenson), and OLBs 2 and 3 (Wonnum and Marcus Davenport. . .if anyone still counts Davenport which, at this point, I don’t think anyone does) being on injured reserve. That’s. . .not great.

And yet the Vikings still have an outside chance at the playoffs. It might not happen this year but if the team gets a return to health in 2024 things could be looking pretty bright.

Those are your first injury reports of the week for the Vikings and the Packers, folks. Obviously we’ll be keeping an eye on these as they come out through the week to see how these injury situations change.
