The Vikings entered Sunday with a chance to clinch a playoff spot with a win and some help. One of those things happened.

When the Vikings took the field in Detroit Sunday, the Lions were the only team in the NFC North Mike Zimmer had a losing record against since becoming their head coach, going 4-5.

For nearly thirty minutes, it looked like it would move to 4-6, as the Vikings offense couldn’t do anything well, except go three and out, while a couple untimely penalties on the defense extended drives and allowed the Lions to jump out to a 9-0 lead.

But the offense finally got it together, and when Kyle Rudolph caught a Kirk Cousins Hail Mary to end the first half, everybody lost their minds in Detroit, Rock City, and the Vikes pulled away on the second half for a 27-9 win.

Blue Chip Stocks:

Kyle Rudolph, TE: Yes, Rudolph had 2 TD’s and over 100 yards receiving, but it was his Hail Mary catch to end the first half that sparked the Vikings and got the offense out of their doldrums.

Up until that play the Vikings had done virtually nothing, and had once again run a fairly wretched two minute drill. All of that washed away with the Hail Rudy, momentum switched over to the Vikings, and they never looked back.

Kirk Cousins, QB: Cousins overcame a slow start to go 21-28 for 253 yards and three TD’s. For as bad as the Vikings played for about 25 minutes in the first half, when the switch came on for Cousins it stayed on, and didn’t come off. On the season he’s completed over 70% of his pases, has 29 TD passes, and thrown for over 4,000 yards, numbers not seen since the days of Brett Favre’s Deal WIth the Devil season of 2009. He’s had a pretty remarkable year, and can get the Vikings into the playoffs with another strong performance next Sunday.

Solid Investments:

Dalvin Cook, RB: Like the rest of the offense, Cook looked like he was moving in cement early on, but came on with a strong second half, running with authority, and had a touchdown taken off the board on a nice catch and run. He had some impressive runs in the second half, and 58 of his 73 yards came in the last two stanzas.

Holton Hill, CB: It’s been a hell of an ask to put an undrafted free agent into a starting role, and Hill has embraced the opportunity. I think he’s a better cornerback than Xavier Rhodes right now, and with every game his play seems to get better and better. If you want a PhD in how to be a defensive back, come to Minnesota.

Mackensie Alexander, CB: Like Hill, Alexander has really playing good football for the past month. In the first half, when the Vikings seemed to be sleep walking through the game, Alexander seemed to be the only one consistently stepping up and making a play when it needed to be made. Things looked bleak for depth when Mike Hughes was lost with a torn ACL, but Mac and Hill are both playing some really good football right now.

Junk Bonds:

Mike Remmers, G: I haven’t seen the PFF grades, so maybe he grades out well in run blocking. But Remmers looked overmatched whenever I noticed him, and once again he was called for two or three really untimely penalties. Maybe it’s me, but I think the move to guard has been a failed experiment with Remmers, and this is a position that will need to be addressed in the off-season.

Buy/Sell:

Buy: The Hail Mary. I think the last time the Vikings had a Hail Mary to end a half was against the Saints in the 1987 playoffs. I didn’t see it coming at all, but Rudolph just went up and grabbed it. It was a great play, and it was really needed.

Sell: Needing a Hail Mary. But you could argue it shouldn’t have been needed. The Lions are terrible, are dealing with a ton of injuries, and have nothing to play for. Had Minnesota come out and started the game like they started the second half, it would have been over by halftime. And take the Hail Rudy out of the equation, this game is a nail biter, when it shouldn’t have been.

Buy: The defense not letting the game get out of hand in the first half. Early on, the game felt like it was getting ready to veer out of control, but the defense kept it together and kept Detroit out of the end zone. 9-0 was a lot better to come back from than 17-0 or 21-0, and even though they had a couple bad penalties called on them that kept drives alive, they never gave up a backbreaking play.

Sell: The offense not able to anything for most of the first half. The Vikings went three and out on offense in their first four possessions and managed a grand total of five yards of offense. How is that even possible? With players like Cousins, Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, and Dalvin Cook, it feels like you almost have to try to be that bad. Seriously. If they make the playoffs and start a game that way they’re getting run out of the stadium. Furthermore, they had a chance (with some help) to clinch a playoff spot, but for about the first 25 minutes they played like they were more concerned about tee times in week 18 than playing football.

Buy: The Vikings going to the playoffs. It’s simple for the Vikings, as they control their own destiny: Win next week and they’re in the playoffs, and they’ll either go to Dallas or Chicago. They’ll be at home, where they generally play much better football, too.

Sell: The Vikings going to the playoffs. But...it’s against the Bears, it’s going to be a high stakes game, and if they lose they go home. these games always make me nervous. But I’d rather be watching my team play with the playoffs at stake than for nothing at all.

It was an ugly start, but the final score looks pretty good.

The Minnesota Vikings got off to an slow start on Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Lions, but thanks to a tough defense and one huge, momentum shifting play, they got the job done against their division rivals.

The Vikings defeated the Lions at Ford Field on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 27-9, moving them one step closer to a return to the 2018 NFC playoffs.

The purple didn’t pick up their initial first down until the midway point of the second quarter, going three-and-out on their first four possessions. Despite that, all the Lions could manage was three field goals by Matt Prater to take a 9-0 lead. Minnesota finally got on the board just after the two-minute warning, as Kirk Cousins found Stefon Diggs for an 8-yard score to cut the deficit to 9-7.

The Hail Mary toss from Cousins to Kyle Rudolph allowed the Vikings to, somehow, take a 14-9 lead into the locker room, and they added to the lead on the first possession of the third quarter with a 24-yard field goal by Dan Bailey to make it 17-9.

That’s how it stayed until the early portion of the fourth quarter, when Cousins found your (likely) 2018 Walter Payton Man of the Year for the second time, this one a 4-yard score to increase the Minnesota lead to 24-9.

The Vikings tacked on three more points near the end of the fourth quarter following a Detroit turnover on downs, as Bailey connected from 29 yards out to make the score 27-9. That’s how it ended, as the Vikings got their second consecutive win and moved closer to a spot in the 2018 NFC playoffs.

After the rough start, Kirk Cousins’ numbers actually looked pretty solid. He completed 21-of-28 passes for 253 yards and three touchdown passes. The big beneficiary was Rudolph, who set a career high with 122 receiving yards on nine catches to go along with the two touchdowns. Adam Thielen chipped in with five grabs for 80 yards, and Dalvin Cook had 35 yards on three catches. Stefon Diggs was limited to just two catches for ten yards, but one of them was the Vikings’ first score.

After only rushing for 15 yards in the first half, Dalvin Cook turned it around in the second half and finished with 73 yards on 16 carries. Latavius Murray had 22 yards on nine carries in a support role.

The Vikings’ defense, while not sacking Matthew Stafford as frequently as they did in the team’s first meeting. . .they managed just three on the day. . .still did a great job of limiting the Detroit offense. They allowed just the three field goals, and Stafford threw for just 116 yards on the afternoon. The Lions pulled him late in the fourth quarter for former Vikings’ quarterback Matt Cassel, who didn’t do a whole lot, either.

The win for the Vikings moves their record to 8-6-1, and they’ll end their season. . .as is their wont. . .with a game at home against the NFC North champion Chicago Bears in Week 17. The Lions fall to 5-10, and they’ll finish their season at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers.

The Minnesota Vikings overcome a slow start to batter the Detroit Lions in Week 16 action by a final score of 27-9. Thank you to everybody that got their coverage of this week’s game right here at The Daily Norseman!

The Vikings lead by a touchdown going into the final quarter

After the crazy finish to the first half, the Minnesota Vikings came out of the locker room with a 14-9 lead over the Detroit Lions, and they got the ball first after deferring to the second half after winning the coin toss. The kickoff from Sam Martin went for a touchback, and Kirk Cousins got the half started with a pass to Adam Thielen for 13 yards. Dalvin Cook then carried twice for 22 yards to move the Vikings into Detroit territory, and a short pass to Latavius Murray moved the chains again to the Detroit 36.

Murray then carried for five, and Cook broke off another big run, this one for 18 yards, and the Vikings were inside the red zone at the Detroit 13. Murray then ran for no gain and Cousins found Kyle Rudolph for a gain of one to bring up 3rd-and-9 from the Detroit 12. Cousins connected with Thielen, but he was short of the first down by a couple of yards. On came Dan Bailey for his first field goal attempt of the afternoon, this one a 24-yard try, and he split the uprights to extend the Vikings’ lead to 17-9.

Bailey’s kickoff went into the end zone for a touchback, giving Matthew Stafford and company a start from their own 25-yard line for their first possession of the second half. He connected with his favorite target, Kenny Golladay, for a gain of one to start the drive, and LeGarrette Blount was stopped for a short gain to make it 3rd-and-7. Stafford misfired for Golladay on third down, and that was a three-and-out for the home team! Sam Martin came in to punt again, and Brandon Zylstra called for the fair catch at the Minnesota 25.

Cook got things started with a gain of four, and Cousins then overthrew Aldrick Robinson on second down to bring up 3rd-and-6. Cousins hit Thielen, but his momentum carried him out of bounds short of the sticks, and Matt Wile came in to punt it away. Jamal Agnew fielded the punt and got the ball to the Detroit 13 to start the next possession for the home team.

Zach Zenner broke off a nice run for the Lions to start their drive, but it was called back by a hold on Golladay. Zenner got the ball again on 1st-and-16 and picked up five yards, and Stafford threw incomplete under pressure on second down to make it third-and-long. Then, the Vikings finally got their first sack of the day, as Everson Griffen took down Stafford to force another three-and-out. Martin came in to punt again, and Zylstra got an opportunity to get a short return to the Minnesota 47.

Cousins started the drive with a throw to Rudolph for a first down into Detroit territory at the 42. Rudolph was then flagged for a false start to make it a 1st-and-15. Cook was stopped for a short gain, and then Cousins hit Rudolph again to make it 3rd-and-1 from the Detroit 33. Cook plowed through for four yards to move the chains, and then picked up another short gain on first down. Mike Remmers was then called for holding on second down to make it 2nd-and-18, and that’s where we stand as we move on to the fourth quarter.

After three quarters of play at Ford Field, the Minnesota Vikings lead the Detroit Lions by a score of 17-9. Can they hold on and get one step closer to the 2018 NFC playoffs?

The Vikings, somehow, lead this game at halftime.

Trailing the Detroit Lions 3-0 after a first quarter where they looked awful, the Minnesota Vikings started off with a Matt Wile punt that took a significant Lions’ bounce and gave the Lions amazing field position at the Minnesota 38. The drive started with a handoff to LeGarrette Blount for a short gain, and Matthew Stafford threw incomplete for Kenny Golladay to bring up third down. Stafford fired incomplete for Andy Jones, but two different Vikings were called for illegal contact on the play to give the Lions a fresh set of downs.

Blount carried again for a few yards, and Zach Zenner was dropped for a loss by Jaleel Johnson to bring up another third down. Stafford then found Golladay for a first down, and the Lions were in the Minnesota red zone. Stafford and Golladay connected again for a gain of five, and Theo Riddick ran for a short gain to bring up yet another third down for Detroit. Mackensie Alexander knocked down a pass intended for Golladay, and on came Matt Prater once again. After a false start, Prater connected from 35 to extend Detroit’s lead to 6-0.

Sam Martin’s kickoff landed in the arms of former Lions running back Ameer Abdullah at the goal line, and he took it back to the Minnesota 21 to start the first drive of the second quarter, and the drive started with Dalvin Cook getting dropped for a loss of a yard. Cousins was then sacked for the second time of the day, this time by Romeo Okwara. Cook then took a handoff on third down and was stopped well short of the sticks for a fourth consecutive three-and-out. Wile came on to punt again, and Jamal Agnew took the return to the Detroit 34-yard line.

Stafford got the drive started with a pass to T.J. Jones for a first down, and the Lions were near midfield again. He then found Kenny Golladay for another big gain and a first down into Minnesota territory at the 38. Blount was dropped for a loss by Eric Wilson, and a short pass to Riddick was stopped for another loss by Danielle Hunter. On 3rd-and-14, Stafford threw incomplete, but Alexander was called for pass interference to give the Lions another first down. Stafford then found T.J. Jones for a gain of seven, and the Lions were on the move again.

Zenner was dropped for another loss on second down, bring up another third down situation. Stafford threw incomplete on third down, and the Lions brought Matt Prater on once again, this time for a 48-yard attempt. He split the uprights again, and the Lions extended their lead to 9-0 with just over four minutes remaining in the half.

Sam Martin’s kickoff went to Abdullah, and he returned the ball to the Minnesota 31-yard line. The Vikings then ran their first play beyond the 30-yard line, and it was a short pass to Dalvin Cook that he turned upfield and into Detroit territory, but Stefon Diggs was called for holding to negate some of the yardage. It was still good for a first down, the Vikings’ first of the day. Latavius Murray ran for a short gain, and then Cousins rolled out and found Kyle Rudolph for a gain of 15 into Detroit territory at the 42.

On the next play, Rudolph was called for holding on a short run by Cook, making it 1st-and-20 from the Detroit 48. Adam Thielen took a handoff for a gain of three, and that took us to the two-minute warning with the Vikings looking at 2nd-and-17. Cousins overthrew Stefon Diggs on the first play after the break, and that brought up another third and very long. Cousins then found a wide-open Adam Thielen down the right sideline, and he was knocked out of bounds at the 9-yard line for a first-and-goal!

Cook ran for a couple of yards on first down, and on second down Cousins fired a strike to Stefon Diggs for an 8-yard touchdown! Dan Bailey connected on the extra point, and the Vikings cut the lead to 9-7.

Jones was then stopped short on third down, and Sam Martin was called on to punt it away on 4th-and-1. Brandon Zylstra, in for the injured Marcus Sherels, got blasted on the punt. . .and blasted early by Tracy Walker, which is a 15-yard penalty. That gave the Vikings the ball at the 30-yard line.

Cousins found Diggs for a short pass on first down, and the Vikings burned a timeout. Cousins then found Thielen for a first down to the Minnesota 48-yard line, with Thielen getting out of bounds to preserve Minnesota’s last timeout. Mike Remmers was then called for holding to make it 1st-and-20, and then a short pass to Cook did just about nothing. Cousins then found Kyle Rudolph to get the ball to the Detroit 44, and then. . .this happened.

Yes, Cousins found Rudolph on a Hail Mary from 44 yards out to give the Vikings a touchdown, and after a (mostly) ugly first half, the Vikings went into the locker room with a 14-9 lead.

After an ugly start, Kirk Cousins’ numbers look pretty good going into the half. He’s completed 10-of-13 passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns. Yes, the Vikings didn’t get a first down until midway through the second quarter, but things have gotten markedly better since then.

Rudolph is now the Vikings’ leading receiver, with three catches for 76 yards and the huge score at the end of the half. Adam Thielen has a pair of catches for 56 yards, and Dalvin Cook has two grabs for 21 yards. Stefon Diggs has two catches for ten yards and a score, while Latavius Murray has a two-yard reception.

The run game hasn’t done a whole lot thus far for the Vikings, as Cook has just 15 yards on six carries. The rest of the team has carried the ball four times for seven yards, and it’s all contributed to the slow start for the Vikings.

After a crazy first half, the Minnesota Vikings go into the locker room at halftime with a 14-9 lead over the Detroit Lions, and they get the ball first to start the second half. Can they keep the momentum going?

The Vikings trail, and have looked awful doing it.

On Sunday afternoon at Ford Field, the action got started with the Minnesota Vikings winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half, meaning that the Detroit Lions would be getting the football to start things off. Dan Bailey put his foot to the ball and it flew through the end zone for a touchback, giving Matthew Stafford and the Detroit offense the ball at their own 25 to start things off. LeGarrette Blount started things off with a four-yard run for the home team, and Zach Zenner followed it up with a nice gain to set up a 3rd-and-1. Zenner then patiently waited for a hole to open up and blew through it for a big gain of 29 yards, going all the way down to the Minnesota 37.

Matthew Stafford then fired incomplete for Kenny Golladay, and Anthony Barr dropped Blount for a loss of three to make it third-and-long. A short screen to Theo Riddick was dropped for a loss by Eric Wilson, and that brought Sam Martin in to punt it away. Martin got an excellent punt away, and outstanding coverage by the Lions’ special teams downed the ball at the Minnesota 2-yard line.

Kirk Cousins led the Vikings offense onto the field deep in their own territory, and a false start on Tom Compton got things started. (Not that they had that far to be pushed back.) Cousins started with a sneak to try to give the offense a bit more room, but only got a yard out of it. C.J. Ham then gave it a try, but only managed another yard to make it 3rd-and-9. Cousins threw short for Stefon Diggs on third down, and the Vikings wound up with a three-and-out. Matt Wile came in to punt the ball away, and the ball was nearly given away by Lions’ returner Jamal Agnew, but he recovered the ball at the Detroit 43-yard line.

Stafford and company got the drive started with a pass to Golladay for a gain of 21 yards, and the Lions were right back into Minnesota territory at the 36. Blount then carried for a gain of five, and Zenner was stopped for a short gain to bring up another third down for the home team. Danielle Hunter then took down Theo Riddick for no gain, and the Lions brought on Matt Prater to attempt a 47-yard field goal. Prater, as he does, split the uprights, and the Lions took an early 3-0 lead.

Martin’s kickoff went through the end zone for a touchback, giving the Vikings the ball at their own 25. The drive started with Dalvin Cook’s first carry of the afternoon, and he picked up four yards. Cousins then fired for Diggs again, but it went off his hands for an incompletion to bring up 3rd-and-6. The Vikings went with a draw to Cook. . .strangely enough. . .and he was stopped well short of the line to gain for another three-and-out. Wile came in to punt again, and Agnew returned the punt to his own 32-yard line.

Blount started the drive with a carry for four yards, and Stafford then completed a pass to Riddick for a first down. Stafford then threw incomplete for Blount, and Zenner was then stopped for a short gain to bring up 3rd-and-8. Stafford then found Golladay for a first down, and then completed a pass to Levine Toilolo to move the sticks again to the Minnesota 30.

Harrison Smith dropped Blount for a loss on the ensuing first down, and Stafford threw incomplete for Blount on a screen. On 3rd-and-13, Mackensie Alexander dropped Riddick for another loss of yards, and the Lions called on Martin to punt it away again. This one took a Minnesota bounce and rolled to the Vikings’ 13-yard line.

The drive started with a short pass to Latavius Murray for two yards, and Cook was stopped for no gain to bring up another third-and-long for the Minnesota offense. Cousins was then sacked by Nevin Lawson for a loss of six and a third consecutive three-and-out. The quarter ended before the Matt Wile punt.

As we move to the second quarter, the Vikings appear to be sleepwalking, as they trail the Detroit Lions by a score of 3-0. Are they eventually going to wake up here?

The final road game of the regular season is upon us!

We are less than an hour away from kickoff at Ford Field, ladies and gentlemen, for the start of the final road game of the 2018 regular season for your Minnesota Vikings. They’ll be taking on their division rivals, the Detroit Lions, in a game that could push them one step closer to finding themselves in the 2018 NFC playoffs. They can even clinch a spot today if they should win and get some help from the Houston Texans.

So, let’s go over everything you need to know about this one.

Time: Sunday, 23 December, noon Central time

Location: Ford Field, Detroit, Michigan

Television coverage: KMSP-9 in the Twin Cities, FOX affiliates throughout the country, DirecTV Ch 712

Radio coverage: Vikings Radio Network, Sirius Channel 106, XM Channel 231 (DET feed)

Line: Minnesota -6.5, Over/Under 43.5

Prediction: Vikings 31, Lions 17

Three keys

1) Limit mistakes. . .again - We hammer this one just about every week, but the Vikings win football games when they don’t make mistakes, and they lose football games when they do. We saw a huge mistake from Kirk Cousins in last week’s game, but the purple were able to overcome it. If this team can take care of the football and not give the Lions extra possessions, they should be able to get themselves a victory in this one.

2) Keep the offense balanced - Last week, the Vikings made a serious commitment to the run game, and both Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray benefited from the change. That might be a bit more difficult to do against the Lions, unless “Snacks” Harrison is out of today’s contest, but they still have to at least attempt to balance things out. Kevin Stefanski called a game plan last week that played to the Vikings’ strengths on offense, particularly those of Kirk Cousins, and they need to continue that trend in Detroit.

3) Continue to hammer Matthew Stafford - The last time these two teams met, the Vikings sacked Stafford a franchise-record ten times. Today, Stafford is coming into practice dealing with a back injury that limited him in practice all week, and his already limited mobility will be reduced as a result. Mike Zimmer’s defense blitzed a lot against Miami last week when Ryan Tannehill was in a similar situation, and the result was nine sacks (eight in the second half). Can we expect a similar performance today?

Just a friendly reminder that we will have a brand new Open Thread at the start of each quarter, so keep your eyes open for those. In the meantime, everybody enjoy the game, and who knows. . .when it’s all said and done, we might be celebrating the Minnesota Vikings returning to the postseason. Hopefully we will be, anyway.

Including a mild surprise for Minnesota

We are less than ninety minutes away from kickoff at Ford Field between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions, and both teams have released their inactive lists for this contest. Let’s take a look at who will be sitting out for each side, starting with the visiting team.

Minnesota Vikings

RB Mike Boone

DE Tashawn Bower

G Danny Isidora

CB Craig James

LB Eric Kendricks

QB Kyle Sloter

WR Laquon Treadwell

Treadwell is a healthy scratch, which comes as a pretty significant surprise. The return of Chad Beebe, who figures to play a huge role today, appears to have lessened the need for Treadwell to be out there. Still, it’s surprising. . .and a bit disappointing. . .to see the former first-round pick not even on the active roster for a game like this. We’ll learn more about this development going forward, I’m sure.

And now, on to the home team.

Detroit Lions

OL Andrew Donnal

LB Nicholas Grigsby

DE Kerry Hyder

C Leo Kolomatangi

WR Chris Lacy

CB Teez Tabor

CB Dee Virgin

In a move that isn’t that surprising, Matthew Stafford will start for the Lions after being listed as questionable and being limited in practice all week with a back injury. More importantly, defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison is active after missing a couple of practices this week, which could present an issue for a Vikings team that wants to run the football. The Lions had two players, wide receiver Bruce Ellington and safety Charles Washington, listed as “out” on their final injury report, and placed both of them on injured reserve yesterday.

That’s a look at the inactive lists, ladies and gentlemen. Our Open Thread for the first quarter of play will be up at approximately 11:00 AM Central time.

How can you follow all the action from Ford Field?

We are a mere twenty-four hours away from the final road game of the 2018 NFL regular season for your Minnesota Vikings, as they’ll make the trip to the Motor City and Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions. We know that you want to follow all of the action from Detroit on Sunday afternoon, and there are numerous ways for you to do just that. Let’s detail all of those ways right here.

Television Info

This game will be getting underway at the only really proper time for NFL kickoffs, and that’s noon Central time on Sunday afternoon. This game will be on FOX affiliates across the United States, which is KMSP-9 in the Twin Cities area. If you’re wondering whether or not your market is in the primary broadcast area for this one, here is the map from the good folks at 506 Sports. The Vikings/Lions game is represented by the yellow area.

If you’re looking for the game on the DirecTV Sunday Ticket package, you’ll want to point the box to Channel 712. The play-by-play for this one will be handled by Chris Myers and Daryl Johnston.

For viewers in the United Kingdom, this game will not be shown on any of the regular broadcast outlets for the NFL in your country. You’ll have to use a service like NFL Game Pass to see this one, which will kick off at 6:00 PM UK time.

For our men and women in uniform overseas, the folks from AFN have decided that, in the spirit of the holiday season. . .

That’s right. . .no live broadcast, no Monday replay, no nothing of this one. I don’t understand how they do that. . .I mean, the Packers/Jets game is at least getting a replay, and that game doesn’t mean squat to anybody.

Radio Info

If you’re not going to be anywhere near a television for this one, you’ll be able to hear the call from Paul Allen and Pete Bercich on the Vikings Radio Network. That link goes to a list of Vikings Radio Network affiliates across the Upper Midwest. See if yours will be carrying the game. There are a couple of other places you can find it online as well, including the TuneIn radio service as well as the KFAN site (if you’re on a desktop or laptop computer only. . .it won’t work on phones or tablets).

For those that have satellite radio, you can find the Vikings Radio Network feed on Sirius Channel 106. The game will also be broadcast on XM Channel 231, but be advised that it will be the Lions’ feed, not the Vikings. If you’re using the SiriusXM Online App, the Vikings’ permanent home there is Channel 819.

Referee Info

Per the good folks at Football Zebras, Sunday’s game will be officiated by the crew led by Walt Anderson. This will be the first Vikings game of the year for Anderson’s crew. The last time the Vikings saw Walt Anderson was their game against the Los Angeles Rams last season at U.S. Bank Stadium, a game in which they emerged with a 24-7 victory.

Weather Info

The game will be played in the cozy, indoor confines of Ford Field, which means weather won’t be affecting the actual game itself. If you’re planning on tailgating or anything like that before the game, it might get a little messy according to our friends from WeatherNation. They’re showing temperatures leading up to game time right around the freezing point, with a steady stream of light freezing drizzle. If you’re driving, there’s a good chance that the roads are going to be a mess when it’s time to head home, so be careful.

Streaming Info

There are several other legal subscription services that are available in order to stream the game legally. Among them are Fubo.tv, USTVNow, and Sling TV. If you’re overseas, your best bet is going to be NFL GamePass.

Since it has recently been brought up, I want to make it perfectly clear that streams from Reddit or other places are not. . .I repeat, not. . .legal. If you’d like to argue about that, you can argue it somewhere else, because the moderators won’t listen to that garbage. Until Reddit, or anywhere else, has a deal with the National Football League, those streams are illegal and not welcome to be put up on this site. If you want to use them, go find them on your own and don’t be plastering them in the comments section here unless you’d rather not be in the comments of the Game Thread. . .or any other thread. . .here at DN.

That should be all of the information you need in order to keep track of all the action from Ford Field between the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. We’ll have our Open Thread for the first quarter up about an hour before kickoff or so, and we hope that you’ll join us here for all of the fun!
