A big game on both sides of the ball for the Vikings

Last weekend at Lambeau FIeld, the Minnesota Vikings offense decided to ride Dalvin Cook until Green Bay stopped him. They didn’t. So, they figured they’d try the same thing again against another NFC North rival when the Detroit Lions came to U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Lions didn’t stop him, either.

Cook ran for a career-high 206 yards on 22 carries and found the end zone twice, and got some help from a Vikings’ defense that forced three interceptions as the purple got their second win in a row, defeating the Lions by a final score of 34-20.

The Vikings got on the board first, as Dalvin Cook continued his hot streak with a five-yard touchdown run on Minnesota’s first possession after the defense forced a three-and-out. It was his fifth touchdown in the last five quarters, and it gave the home team an early 7-0 lead.

The Vikings then picked up another interception, courtesy of Harrison Smith, giving the Vikings’ defense three on the afternoon. Unfortunately, the Lions got another blocked punt after the Vikings went three-and-out in an attempt to run off some clock, and Chase Daniel (in for a concussed Matthew Stafford) completed a 2-yard pass to T.J. Hockenson for a score. That cut the Minnesota lead to 34-20 with just under seven minutes left.

That was all the scoring in this one, as the Vikings got the ball back and just ground down the clock until there was no time for the Lions to add any more to their total, and got out of the game with their second consecutive victory and third win of the 2020 season.

For the second week in a row, Dalvin Cook was the star with his 206-yard performance. He also had a pair of receptions for 46 yards in this one.

Kirk Cousins quietly had a pretty efficient game in this one, as he completed 13-of-20 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Irv Smith Jr. was the recipient of two of those touchdowns, with Ameer Abdullah accounting for the third. Justin Jefferson led the Vikings in receiving yardage with 64 yards on three receptions.

The Vikings move their record to 3-5 on the year, and they’ll continue their tour of the NFC North next week with a trip to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. The Lions fall to 3-5 on the season, and they’ll return to Ford Field to host the Washington Football Team next Sunday.

The Vikings get their third win of the season in a big way at U.S. Bank Stadium, as they defeat the Detroit Lions by a final score of 34-20. Thank you to everyone that got their coverage of this one right here at The Daily Norseman!

Minnesota got the football coming out of the locker room at halftime, but their first possession resulted in a punt. Detroit quickly went three-and-out in response, and the Vikings then put together another impressive drive. The Vikings capped the drive with Irv Smith Jr.’s second scoring catch of the day, this one a 1-yard toss from Kirk Cousins, and the home team extended their lead to 27-10 with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Vikings are up by 10

It’s halftime in Minneapolis, and your Minnesota Vikings lead the Detroit Lions by a score of 20-10 in Week 9 NFL action.

Detroit started the quarter with the ball down two scores, and pushed into Minnesota territory to a first-and-goal situation. A nice stop by the Vikings’ defense on 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line made the Lions settle for a 23-yard Matt Prater field goal to the the visiting team on the board at 13-3.

After the Vikings were forced to punt it away, the Lions put together another long drive, and this time they hit paydirt on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to Marvin Jones. Prater added the extra point, and the lead for Minnesota was down to 13-10 with just over a minute left in the half.

With all their timeouts remaining, the Vikings put together an incredibly impressive two-minute drill, with Dalvin Cook running the ball and Kirk Cousins hitting some nice passes.
The Vikings’ offense has again run through Dalvin Cook, as he’s carried the ball nine times for 66 yards and a score, in addition to adding two receptions for 46 yards. That makes him the Vikings’ leading receiver as well.

Cousins has had another efficient half of football, completing 9-of-11 passes for 169 yards and a pair of score. He’s hit a number of different receivers, as Adam Thielen (38 yards) and Kyle Rudolph (32 yards) each have a pair of catches, while Justin Jefferson (22 yards), Ameer Abdullah (22 yards and a score) and Irv Smith Jr. (nine yards and a score) each have one reception.

The Vikings won the toss and deferred to the second half, and the defense forced a three-and-out on the first possession of the game.
Can the Vikings get two in a row?

We are just an hour away from kickoff at U.S. Bank Stadium, as the Minnesota Vikings look to put together their first winning streak of the 2020 season as they host the Detroit Lions. Here is everything you need to know about this one.

Date and Time: Sunday, 8 November, 2020, noon Central time

Location: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota

Television Coverage: WCCO-4 in the Twin Cities, CBS affiliates around the country, DirecTV Channel 708

Radio Coverage: Vikings Radio Network, Sirius Channel 81, XM Channel 226, SiriusXM App Ch 820

Line: Vikings -3.5, Over/Under 52

Chris’ Prediction: Vikings 30, Lions 27

Three Keys

1) Do that whole “don’t turn the ball over” thing again - The Vikings didn’t have any turnovers against Green Bay last week, and you know, things went pretty well! If the Vikings can do that again, they should be able to have a lot of success this week.

2) Try to balance the offense a little bit - I know that Dalvin Cook is spectacular and everything, but I don’t think the Lions’ defense is quite as atrocious as Green Bay’s is, and they will probably be loading up to stop him. That means that Kirk Cousins, Adam Thielen, Justin Jefferson and company will have to make some plays in this one.

3) Get after whoever the Lions’ quarterback is - It’s probably going to be Matthew Stafford for Detroit, but whoever it is, the Vikings need to put some pressure on them. The last time Stafford played a game at U.S. Bank Stadium. . .remember, he missed last year’s game. . .he was sacked 10 times. The Vikings’ defense looks a lot different now than it did then, but the same principles apply. They need to get after the quarterback to help a secondary that’s being held together by scotch tape and bailing wire.

Who will be sitting this one out?

We’re about ninety minutes away from kickoff between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium, which means it’s time for this week’s inactive lists.
How to follow all of Sunday’s action from U.S. Bank Stadium

We are just hours away from the kickoff of Week 9 of the 2020 NFL season, as the Minnesota Vikings return to U.S. Bank Stadium to host their NFC North rivals, the Detroit Lions. In order to ensure that everyone knows how they can follow along with Sunday’s game, we’ve compiled everything you need to know into one spot, so let’s get to it here.

Television Info

Once again, the Vikings and Lions will kick things off at the best possible time for NFL action, that being noon Central on Sunday afternoon. In a bit of a scheduling quirk, this all-NFC matchup is going to be aired on CBS, which is WCCO-4 in the Twin Cities. And, in a pretty sweet twist, we get the privilege of hearing Kevin Harlan (who, as I’ve said in this space numerous times, is the best in the game) along with Trent Green. If you’re wondering about whether or not you’re in the broadcast area for this one, here is the map from the folks at 506 Sports. The Lions/Vikings game is shown in blue.

If you’re going to be using the DirecTV Sunday Ticket package for this one, you can point your receiver to Channel 708.

For our men and women serving in uniform overseas, AFN will (once again) not be showing this one live, but they will be showing a replay on AFN Sports 2. Kickoff for the replay is slated for 1000Z on Monday, which works out to 1100L on Monday for viewers in Central Europe, 1430L on Monday for fans in Afghanistan, and 1900L on Monday for everyone in Japan and Korea.

Radio Info

Once again, the Vikings Radio Network and all of its affiliates will be bringing you live broadcasts of every Vikings game for 2020. If you’re traveling around an area where there’s an affiliate or you just prefer the radio to the television, check out their site and find the affiliate in your area.

For those with satellite radio, you can find the Vikings feed for this contest on either Sirius Channel 81 or XM Channel 226. If you’re using the SiriusXM app, the Vikings’ permanent home there can be found on Channel 820.

Referee Info

According to the folks from Football Zebras, the officiating crew for today’s contest will be headed up by Clete Blakeman. This will be the second time this year that Blakeman’s crew will travel to U.S. Bank Stadium, as the same crew handled the Vikings’ 31-30 loss to the Tennessee Titans back in Week 3.

Weather Info

With the game being indoors, the weather will not be a factor in this one, but it might behoove the Vikings to have the big doors open, because it’s going to be a downright gorgeous day in the Twin Cities according to the folks from WeatherNation. It might be a bit breezy, with winds coming out of the southeast at around 20 miles an hour, but temperature at kickoff will be right around 70 degrees.

Streaming Info

With this game being broadcast on CBS, you can stream it through CBS All-Access. Otherwise, I believe a lot of the cord-cutting services offer some sort of streaming option, and there’s always NFL GamePass if you don’t have any of those. Heck, you can even get Sunday Ticket on your PlayStation or XBox, if nothing else.

In the spirit of the legendary Bob Casey, there will be no illegal streams here on the Daily Norseman. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO illegal streams here on the Daily Norseman. Promoting such things is grounds for an immediate and permanent ban. Don’t be one of those troll accounts that we get here every so often that we ban across the entire platform.

That should be all of the relevant information you need to follow all of the action from U.S. Bank Stadium this afternoon between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions. As always, the Game Threads will start flowing approximately an hour before kickoff, so we hope to see you here then.

The Vikings’ CBs are a mess, but the Lions will be without their WR1

The final injury reports for the Detroit Lions and your Minnesota Vikings before Sunday’s NFC North battle at U.S. Bank Stadium have been released, and there are some pretty significant losses for both sides before this one even gets underway. Let’s take a look at both reports, starting with the visiting team.

As we’ve mentioned the past couple of days, not having Kenny Golladay would be a huge loss for the Lions, and they’ve officially declared him out for this one. He’s one of three players that Detroit has declared as out for this one, and we still don’t have a definitive word on quarterback Matthew Stafford, who as of tonight is still on the Lions’ COVID-19 list. Dahl appears to be trending the wrong way for them as well.

Here’s a look at the injury report for the good guys.

The Vikings have declared three players out for this one as well, all of them at the cornerback position. Mike Zimmer said that Cameron Dantzler had a chance to play this week, but after what happened to him last Sunday it’s not at all surprising to see him not ready for this one. A fourth cornerback, Harrison Hand, looks to be a game-time decision for this one. Not optimal for the Vikings’ secondary, but they made it through last week’s game, so here’s hoping they can weather this one as well.

Those are your final injury reports for this Sunday’s game between the Lions and the Vikings, folks. We’ll have more coverage of this one for you as we get closer to kickoff.
